Full-time, 12 months/year

 

This position is for an on-site administrator at the alternative school in Albemarle County Public Schools, The Center for Learning and Growth. The on-site administrator would be responsible for program oversight / management and support while also providing instruction to students for part of this assignment. Student and staff job-embedded training and support in the areas of wellness, restorative practices and high-yield strategies for teaching and learning are expected. The hours are projected to be from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Candidates should hold an endorsement in K-12 school administration. Experience with restorative practices with an understanding and application of a need-based framework to understand behavior is a plus.

General Definition of Work:

Under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Superintendent or designee, the Program Administrator will plan, organize and direct services and program activities. The On-Site Program Administrator will provide leadership and administrative support to promote and sustain high academic achievement for all students in the program. While being the teacher of record for an established amount of sections, the Program Administrator will also serve as support for the operation and management of the school program and implement systemic quality assurance processes to ensure the retention and development of an effective teacher in every classroom. The On-site Program Administrator will demonstrate the capacity to develop and maintain a high-functioning professional learning community while collaborating with colleagues to provide a seamless approach to teaching and learning. This role may involve hours outside of the typical school workday.


Essential Functions:
  • Provides educational and administrative leadership to the staff and students at the designated site or program;
  • Plans and provides high-quality instruction to students enrolled in the program as part of the regular instructional team the program;
  • Works under general direction and assists in the development and implementation of program goals and objectives;
  • Plans, coordinates, schedules, supervises, and evaluates work performed by certificated and classified staff;
  • Performs classroom observations and conferences with teachers to improve the instructional program;
  • Develops and implements professional development activities in the program;
  • Plans, develops, and implements staff development and in-service training programs within the division;
  • Directs and assists staff through conferences, meetings, memos, in-service workshops, classroom demonstrations, and site visits;
  • Supervisory responsibilities include day-to-day supervision of certificated and classified staff, and conducting staff evaluations;
  • Attends Individual Educational Program (IEP) meetings, determines class placement, and monitors delivery systems for student special education services;
  • Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of program evaluation systems;
  • Confers and assist in resolving a variety of education-related issues and problems with students, teachers, case workers, parents, school officials, and other agency personnel;
  • Counsels students and administers disciplinary action when necessary;
  • Conferences with parents of program students on a regular basis concerning discipline, academic achievement, and any other parental concerns;
  • Works closely with parents, keeping them appraised of educational activities and soliciting their input for program change and improvement;
  • Establishes and maintains clear communications and cooperative working relationships with families, staff, other agencies, and regional and state administrators through announcements, letters, telephone communications, attendance at meetings and site visits;
  • Serves as a liaison and coordinates educational programs with a variety of outside agencies, community groups, local school districts, and other entities; implements and coordinates parent and advisory group activities, as applicable;
  • Serves as a lead for one or more district committees and professional development in support of the program and division goals;
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative and professional working relationships with individuals, groups, and public and private agency personnel;
  • Assists in any required school safety inspections, safety drill practice activities, and emergency evacuation procedures;
  • Monitors halls, school grounds, and pupil movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment;
  • Manages and coordinates facilities use;
  • Be flexible and receptive to change;
  • Prepares and presents a variety of reports, records, and statistical data regarding activities, attendance, physical maintenance, instructional needs, and services;
  • Interprets and administers applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations;
  • Monitors compliance with all applicable federal and state laws in regard to annual reviews, re-evaluations, etc.;
  • Develops and administers program budgets;
  • Performs other and related duties as assigned;
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, standards, practices, and techniques of professional and school nursing; comprehensive knowledge of the dangers inherent in and the precautions to be taken in the use of medications; thorough knowledge of the treatment, diagnostic, immunization, and related medical services; ability to assign and supervise the work of professional personnel and to instruct them in practices and techniques; ability to accurately maintain student medical records and prepare reports; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with associates, students, parents, physicians, subordinates and others contacted in the course of work; knowledge of all equipment used in the school clinics; superior written and oral communication skills, lifesaving skills, pharmacology knowledge; ability to conduct assessments in emergency and non-emergency situations, knowledge/use of universal procedures, supervisory and administrative ability.


Education and Experience:

Must possess a Master’s degree in education or a related field with some teaching experience to include related program experience. Must be eligible for or in a program working towards a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in administration and supervision. Five (5) or more years of related, progressive experience.


Physical Conditions and Nature of Work Contacts:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public using the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Frequent sitting, walking, bending, grasping, fingering, repetitive motion, reaching, and driving. Frequent travel to school sites throughout the county and occasional state-wide or regional travel is required. Attendance at meetings outside the normal duty hours is frequently required. Occasional standing and stooping. Work involves moderate exposure to infectious diseases, Ability to lift up to 20 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds rarely. Requires timely and regular adherence to established work schedules. Regular involvement with principals and school staff throughout the School Division; usually there is a need to motivate, establish rapport, gain support, persuade or influence individuals or groups. Contacts often require tact and discretion. Contacts with State and Federal agencies are required frequently. Contacts with the School Board, Advisory Councils, faculties and students, parents, and the general public may be required.


Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated on the ability and effectiveness in carrying out the above responsibilities.
