We are seeking a compassionate Skills Instructor to design and facilitate individualized skill-building programs that empower participants to reach their fullest potential. Job Summary:

As a Skill Instructor, you will design, develop, and deliver individualized lessons that teach critical life skills to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Each lesson will be tailored to the unique needs and abilities of each learner, promoting meaningful skill development that enhances independence and quality of life.

Instruction may take place in indoors, outdoors, or in mixed environments, depending on the learners' needs and the nature of the skills being taught. You will work with multiple learners at a time, providing personalized support to ensure everyone receives the guidance necessary for their growth and success.

Your role involves providing hands-on training with care and patience, in a positive and supportive environment. Through your guidance, creativity, and commitment, you will play a vital role in empowering learners and fostering their personal growth and success.

Immediate Opening: Instructors with background in teaching and personal experience/expertise in Arts/Crafts/Music/Woodworking or Computer and Academic skill areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Personal Development Plan Development:

• Assess participant needs and abilities.
• Create personalized development plans in collaboration with families and team members.
• Chart the course for each learner from where they are to state of independence
• Create individualized curriculum with lessons and training sessions that align with each learner’s abilities, learning pace, and goals.
• Create metrics that measure performance of the learner on each skill in their curriculumn
• Regularly update programs to ensure progress.

Subject Matter Expert

• Become a Subject Matter Expert by developing in-depth knowledge of the skill areas you teach, whether it be communication, self-care, job readiness, or other life skills.
• Develop lessons and skill training activities that in a stepwise manner advances each learner up the level of mastery for each skill area
• Develop teaching methods, guides, evaluation method, and delivery for each skill area and each lesson
• Identify various teaching techniques suited to the need and level of each learner.
• Create customized training in communication, socialization, self-care, organizational, money management, independent shopping, safety, food and meal planning, music and arts, and other life skills.

Skill Training

• Lead the skill training sessions for each group of learners
• Guide learners through hands-on activities, demonstrating new skills, and offering ongoing feedback and support.
• Provide training for Skill Development Coordinators to properly support you in each skill training session
• Work in cooperation with the Skills Development Coordinators to provide the best learning experiences for each group of learners
• Encourage learners, building their self-confidence, and creating an environment of respect, dignity, and inclusion.

Skill Assessment and Score

• Regularly monitor and record each learner’s progress, adjusting lessons to ensure they are appropriately challenging, and helping learners advance on their learning journey.
• Ensure that each learner is not only acquiring skills but progressing toward mastery by providing opportunities for practice and refinement.
• Create an objective assessment process that evaluates the learning during each period against the goals set for the same
• Train staff on tracking participant progress and goal achievement.

Collaboration & Compliance:

• Work closely with families, caregivers, and external agencies.
• Ensure all programs comply with organizational policies and state regulations.

Transportation:

• Daily pickup and drop-off of clients
• Weekly drive to outside events and activities

Requirements:

• Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s degree preferred) in social work, psychology, education, special education or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Experience working with IDD population 1 year.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• CPR and First Aid certification (Preferred)
• Fluency in English (reading and writing) is required.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting and transferring clients, as needed.
• Successful completion of a background check & drug screening is required. Complete State/Federal Criminal Background checks, Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI) checks, and Central Registry checks;
• Minimum 18 years of age
• Valid driver’s license and abstract (not to exceed 5 points) as driving is required.
• Experience driving passenger vans
