OVERVIEW
The Victim Services Advocate is responsible for providing direct advocacy, support, and resources to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. This position requires fluency in both English and Spanish. The Advocate works closely with survivors to provide emotional support, safety planning, crisis intervention, and referrals to appropriate community services.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
General Office Advocacy Competencies
- Bilingual in Spanish/English with the ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish / English.
- Complete 40 hours of Advocacy Training through Center for Hope & Safety (CHS)
- Offer individual services to child and adult victims/survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human trafficking.
- Assist survivors in developing short-term and long-term safety plans.
- Provide support, information, referrals, and emergency transportation to clients as needed to help survivors access needed services.
- Provide referrals for social, medical, and legal services and assist clients in obtaining necessary resources.
- Coordinate client appointments and case management services with other staff members or community partners.
- Provide information and education to survivors and the community regarding domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking.
- Maintain confidentiality in all matters and ensure accurate and up-to-date records on all activities.
- Participate in shared activities including hotline supervision, outreach efforts, hotline scheduling, staff meetings, shelter and office maintenance, hotline coverage, fundraising, and donation processing.
- Facilitate working relationship between community partners and CHS.
- Assist with training of new staff, volunteers, and practicum students, as needed.
