Join us at CHIA and be a driving force in health policy impact! We are seeking a Research Analyst to contribute to our growing research projects within the dynamic Strategy and Research team.    

The Research Analyst will work closely with the research team and other colleagues at CHIA, vendors, and stakeholders such as sister agencies, providers, payers etc. The Research Analyst will help lead and support analytic work and product development in addressing ongoing and emerging health care information and data gaps, particularly in areas such as health care workforce, health care utilization, and emerging issues.  

As a Research Analyst, you will have the opportunity to:  

  1. Drive Data-Backed Insights: Seize the opportunity to work with an extensive range of data on health care utilization, access, and equity related issues. You will be at the forefront of producing and reviewing clear and comprehensive written analyses, graphics, tables and presentations using CHIA's rich data sources to unearth crucial insights that will inform and shape health care policies and initiatives.   

  1. Shape Data Management and Analysis: Take an active role in shaping data projects by implementing data management tasks for large datasets such as the All Payer Claims Database (APCD), hospital discharge data (Case Mix), and other data assets to facilitate and deliver insightful analyses that drive real change in Massachusetts health care, all while expanding your skills in a dynamic, mission-driven environment. 

  1. Champion Data Integrity: Participate in quality assurance (QA) and documentation processes to ensure that reported data is reliable and accurate. Work both independently and collaboratively with team members in developing analytical plans and documentation appropriate for each project. 

  1. Become a Technical and Subject Matter Expert: Provide technical support to the research team in programming and data analytics using APCD, Case Mix, and other data assets. Use your critical thinking skills to conduct literature searches and synthesize findings on topics of interest.  

Here are the important qualifications we are looking for:   

  1. Data Programming and Visualization Expertise: At least 1 year of experience and knowledge of data management and analysis using SAS, R, STATA, and/or any other major statistical packages. Knowledge of/experience with PowerBI, Tableau for data visualization preferred 

  1. Research Background: Knowledge of and experience with research methods and processes 

  1. Health Care Knowledge: Experience working with hospital discharge data and previous experience working with health care claims data strongly preferred.  

  1. Effective Communication: Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to articulate complex technical issues clearly and persuasively.   

  1. Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, public policy, public health, or quantitative field required; Advanced degree in health services research, statistics, epidemiology, or related field strongly preferred.  

Minimum Entrance Requirements: 
 
Analyst I: Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time professional experience in business administration, health care planning or administration, public health policy or administration, human services policy analysis or administration or economics, the major duties of which included financial analysis of costs, expenses and revenue and/or the development, implementation and monitoring of financial reimbursement systems, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. 
 
Substitutions: 
I. A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in health care administration, hospital administration, public health or health services administration, accounting, business administration, business management, public policy, public administration or economics may be substituted for the required experience. 
 
Analyst II: Applicant must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time professional experience in business administration, finance, accounting, health care planning or administration, public health policy or administration, human services policy analyses or administration, economics, or a similar field; or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. 

Substitutions: 

I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in health care administration, hospital administration, public health or health services administration, finance, accounting, business administration, business management, public policy, public administration, economics, or similar degree may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.* 

II. A graduate degree with a major in health care administration, hospital administration, public health or health services administration, finance, accounting, business administration, business management, public policy, public administration, economics, or a similar degree may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required experience.* 

Analyst III: Applicant must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time professional experience in business administration, health care planning or administration, public health policy or administration, human services policy analyses or administration, economics, the major duties of which included financial analysis of costs, expenses and revenue and/or the development, implementation and monitoring of the health care service delivery system and pricing methods. In addition, applicant must have a working knowledge of CHIA’s administration of nursing and residential care facility rate setting operations, including determining revised capital rates, setting rates for existing and new facilities, ownership changes, realty and management companies, and CHIA’s systems used to maintain nursing and residential care facility operations and rates. 

Substitutions: 

I. A Bachelor's degree with a major in health care administration, hospital administration, public health or health services administration, accounting, business administration, business management, public policy, public administration, economics, or similar degree may be substituted for a maximum of two years of the required experience.* 

II. A graduate degree with a major in health care administration, hospital administration, public health or health services administration, accounting, business administration, business management, public policy, public administration, economics, or a similar degree may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the required experience.* 

*Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed. 

NAGE: Reimbursement Systems Analyst I (RSA I) and Reimbursement Systems Analyst II (RSA II) 

The full salary band:  

 

Analyst I/ RSA I: $61,551.88 - $87,921.34 annually. 
Analyst II/ RSA II: $70,757.18 - $102,269.96 annually.

Analyst II/ RSA III: $81,166.28 - $118,145.56 annually.  

Total Compensation:  

We value the talent and expertise you bring to the table. We offer a competitive salary range of $61,551.88 - $118,145.56 annually for this position. Salary is commensurate with experience. CHIA may adjust title, responsibilities, and salary depending on the experience and expertise of the individual selected.
