Center for Health Empowerment in South Texas (CHEST) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit startup committed to eliminating health disparities and closing the life expectancy gap in the South, West and East sides of San Antonio. Through education, access, investment, and cross-sector collaboration, CHEST is building a comprehensive ecosystem for health equity.
Position Summary
The Program Director will play a critical role in supporting CHEST’s strategic initiatives by staffing and facilitating work groups and task forces composed of board and non-board members. These groups are focused on improving health care services, expanding health career pathways, and increasing life expectancy in the region. Additionally, the Program Director will be responsible for overseeing the partners in the CHEST Health Empowerment Center(s) and serve as a liaison between the organizations. The Program Director will design, run, and scale the programs that drive CHEST’s growth.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinate logistics and communications for all work groups, task forces, and CHEST partners
• Schedule meetings, prepare agendas, and document outcomes
• Track progress on strategic initiatives and ensure timely follow-up
• Support stakeholder engagement and cross-sector collaboration
• Assist with grant reporting, data collection, and program evaluation
• Maintain organized records and contribute to internal reporting
• Maintain activities calendar for CHEST Health Empowerment Center(s)
• Schedule programming at the CHEST Health Empowerment Center(s)
• Find grant funding for programs
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in public health, nonprofit management, social work, community development, or related field
2 years in program coordination, community engagement, or nonprofit operations
Excellent communication, organization, and facilitation; proficiency in Microsoft Office, or Google Workspace
Prefer Bilingual (Spanish-English); familiarity with South San Antonio communities; experience with addressing health disparities and nonmedical drivers of health (e.g., affordable housing and utilities, financial strain, access to healthy food, personal safety, and access to transportation).
Location and travel
On-site; local travel to activity sites and community events required.
Hours
Full-time; flexibility required for events and stakeholder meetings.
Salary Range
$80,000 annually, depending on experience, bilingual fluency, and scope of responsibilities.
