About Us

The Center for Food as Medicine and Longevity (CFAML) is a nonprofit research organization dedicated to advancing the scientific integration of nutrition into disease prevention, treatment, and healthspan optimization. Our work focuses on the rigorous evaluation and translation of evidence on the therapeutic role of food and dietary supplements across clinical and public-health contexts.

We are undertaking a multi-year initiative to develop comprehensive academic literature reviews and applied research syntheses examining how food and dietary supplements influence disease processes, functional aging, and overall healthspan. This work is intended to support clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and informed members of the public through methodologically sound, evidence-based resources.


Position Overview

CFAML seeks doctoral-level researchers to author high-quality narrative and systematic literature reviews on the role of food and dietary supplements in disease management, prevention, and longevity. This position is particularly well suited to postdoctoral scholars or recent PhD, MD, or DrPH graduates seeking to conduct translational research with real-world clinical and public-health relevance while maintaining academic rigor.

Researchers may contribute in one or more designated focus areas outlined below.


Priority Research AreasMusculoskeletal Health

  • Tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue structure and repair
  • Joint health and inflammatory arthritis
  • Skeletal muscle growth, repair, and maintenance across the lifespan

Pulmonary and Respiratory Health

  • Asthma and airway inflammation
  • Pulmonary rehabilitation and respiratory function
  • Allergic disease and immune-mediated respiratory conditions

Gastrointestinal and Gut Health

  • Gut microbiome composition and function
  • Digestive disorders and gastrointestinal health
  • Diet–microbiome–immune system interactions

Immunity, Aging, and Disease Prevention

  • Nutritional modulation of immune function
  • Inflammaging, immunosenescence, and resilience
  • Dietary strategies for chronic disease prevention and healthy aging

Emotional and Mental Well-Being

  • Dietary patterns and mental health outcomes
  • Anxiety, depression, and stress resilience
  • Nutrition-inflammation-brain health pathways

  • Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct comprehensive narrative and/or systematic reviews of peer-reviewed scientific literature
    • Evaluate evidence on food-based and dietary supplement interventions for specific diseases and healthspan states
    • Author academically rigorous manuscripts suitable for clinical, policy, and applied audiences
    • Translate complex findings into structured, accessible analyses without compromising scientific accuracy
    • Manage references, citations, and drafts using Zotero
    • Revise and edit content to ensure clarity, methodological transparency, and internal consistency


    Qualifications

    • Postdoctoral researcher or recent PhD, MD, or DrPH graduate from a recognized institution in nutrition, public health, medicine, or a related scientific discipline
    • Demonstrated excellence in academic research, scientific writing, and literature synthesis
    • Ability to manage large bodies of evidence and present findings with precision and clarity
    • Subject-matter expertise in one or more priority research areas listed above
    • Commitment to producing scientifically rigorous, evidence-based, and practically relevant research

    Compensation and Appointment Structure

    This position combines compensated research deliverables with an academic service component.

    • Literature review stipend: $400–$600 per approved topic (e.g., muscle health, lung health, gut health, immunity and aging)
    • Additional research or editorial work: Compensated at approximately $25–$30 per hour, subject to prior written agreement
    • Appointment type: Part-time, project-based
