Description
CENTER FOR FAMILY LIFE, a nationally recognized social service program in Sunset Park Brooklyn, is seeking enthusiastic individuals to serve as AmeriCorps Workers to support youth engagement programs and promote student leadership development and career readiness. AmeriCorps members will work collaboratively with staff and will gain experience in working with youth ages 14-21 and learn about the social work group model. Our ideal candidate has knowledge and a demonstrated interest in working with youth and will utilize a strengths-based approach to enrich the lives of youth, families and community.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Supervise students in a variety of activities and clubs focused on arts, homework assistance and enrichment, team building and leadership development
- Co-facilitate afterschool clubs with CFL staff members
- Partner with SPHS teachers to co-facilitate school day advisory classes twice per week
- Attend trainings relating to social group work and team meetings
- Assist in the design and implementation of special events for high school students, families and the community
- Road to College Night, Winter Wonderland, Spring/Fall Fest, SYEP Job Fair, etc
- Support with supervision of annual spring show preparation and performances
- Plan and coordinate field trips for students
- Co-facilitate weekly groups and provide individual mentoring sessions for students to discuss their academic progress and/or college research
- Perform office duties as necessary (light data entry, filing, copying, answering phones)
- Assist youth with the SYEP process including the application process, enrollment and orientations
- May require working evenings and weekends
Qualifications
- Some college experience preferred
- Experience working with youth on leadership development, service learning, and/or college exploration
- Must enjoy working with high school students, working in groups, collaborating with others, and being part of a community
- Bilingual in English Spanish or English Chinese, a plus
- 3 references required (2 must be professional)

Compensation/Benefits
- Bi-Weekly Living Allowance
- Receive Educational Award, upon successful completion of program
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and medical clearance, which will be conducted after a conditional offer is made and accepted.
