Position: Transatlantic Defense and Security Intern

Schedule: Full or Part Time (20-40 hours per week, unpaid internship)

Location: Washington, DC

The Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join its Transatlantic Defense and Security (TDS) program as a Transatlantic Defense and Security Intern.

The intern will work closely with the TDS program to help shape policy debates, build communities of interest, and develop policy solutions to address the most pressing transatlantic security challenges of the 21st century. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in defense and security policy, research, and stakeholder engagement within a dynamic international policy environment.

The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, along with a keen interest in defense and security issues, international relations, and transatlantic cooperation. The candidate must be proactive, organized, and capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on transatlantic defense and security issues, including NATO, regional issues, and emerging threats;
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, reports, and articles related to defense and security policy;
  • Support the organization and execution of events, including roundtables, workshops, and public discussions;
  • Collaborate with the TDS program team on outreach efforts to policymakers, military officials, and subjectmatter experts;
  • Monitor and report on key developments in defense and security policy across Europe and North America;
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for program activities;
  • Contribute to the development of strategic initiatives and policy recommendations.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in a relevant field (e.g., International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Public Policy);
  • Minimum junior or senior standing in undergraduate studies, or enrollment in a graduate program.

Skills:

  • Strong research, analytical, and writing abilities;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration tools (Teams);
  • Familiarity with defense and security policy topics, such as NATO, transatlantic relations, and regional conflicts;
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.

Interest and Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated interest in CEPA’s mission and focus areas, particularly transatlantic defense and security policy;
  • Basic knowledge of global and regional politics, defense institutions, and military strategy is a plus.

Professional Traits:

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills;
  • Team player with a proactive approach;
  • Adaptability and eagerness to learn in a fastpaced environment.

Availability:

  • Commitment to three months, with agreedupon hours per week, between 2040 hours;
  • Ability to work in CEPA’s office or remotely, depending on role requirements.
