The Opportunity

The Director I, Technical Assistance is responsible for shaping and executing CEO’s strategy to expand income-supported reentry employment through field partnerships, intermediary strategies, and technical assistance. This role designs and operationalizes CEO’s support for community-based organizations, public agencies, and workforce providers through advisory and intermediary services such as SNAP E&T implementation. This position is also responsible for strengthening CEO’s national platform for reentry field-building—advancing high-quality service delivery through scalable, collaborative infrastructure aligned with CEO’s FY26–FY30 Strategic Plan.

As part of our mission, we strongly encourage individuals who have lived experience of incarceration or involvement in the justice system to apply for this role.

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people recently released from incarceration. Across the United States, 8,000-9,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 30,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996.

Who You Are

  • You have at least 6 years of experience in policy or programming related to workforce, public benefits and criminal justice
  • You have experience designing and delivering capacity-building programs or technical assistance at scale
  • You have familiarity with SNAP E&T, WIOA, or other public workforce funding programs and service delivery infrastructure
  • You have experience in research and data analysis as well as using findings to inform perspective and decision-making for the organization
  • You have experience managing large-scale projects, including setting goals, defining deliverables, overseeing timelines, and ensuring accountability to outcomes
  • You are eager to apply your experience and skill set within a fast-paced, mission-driven, and social justice-minded nonprofit organization
  • You are an outstanding communicator, able to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing and to tailor your communication style to various stakeholders
  • You can build relationships with public agencies, community-based organizations, and high-level public officials to develop, implement, and promote new programs and projects
  • You can drive results both independently and as part of a team, all while working remotely with a geographically dispersed team
  • You can work seamlessly across departments to align goals, resolve challenges, and drive organizational initiatives
  • You demonstrate the ability to translate organizational priorities into actionable strategies
  • You can center equity, dignity, and inclusion in decision-making and partnership development.

Compensation And Benefits

We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package that reflects how much we value our people. We invest in your future with a retirement plan that includes employer contributions, along with free financial wellness coaching and resources for mental health and wellbeing through our Employee Assistance Program.

We also recognize the importance of balance and rest. That’s why we provide a robust paid time off package — including 20 vacation days, 12 sick days, 12 paid holidays, 2 personal days, and 1 floating holiday.

Beyond benefits, CEO fosters a culture of learning, connection, and teamwork. From our affinity group program and lunch-and-learns and team outings, we create opportunities to grow, share, and build community together.

This is an exempt position with a tiered compensation system designed to ensure fairness, market alignment, and equity across our geographical territories. CEO’s salary structure consists of multiple tiers, with ranges determined based on the cost of labor in specific markets.

For this role, the salary range falls within the overall range $98,300-$130,000. CEO’s current salary tiers are structured as follows:

  • Tier 1: $118,000-$130,000
  • Tier 2: $108,200-$119,000
  • Tier 3 : $100,800-$111,000
  • Tier 3: $98,300-$108,000

CEO’s pay philosophy is centered on experience and internal equity, meaning that individuals with less experience typically start at the lower end of the entry salary ranges above. Higher salary placement is usually reflective of the additional comparable experience, expertise, skills, and contributions employees bring from similar roles. This approach ensures compensation aligns with an employee's background while providing room for growth within the salary range.
