Description

The Center for Elders’ Independence is a PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the elderly) organization (PO) that uses an interdisciplinary team approach for care planning and implementing purposeful high quality, affordable, and integrated health care services to the elderly. Our elderly meet PACE requirements as prescribed by CMS and are referred to as participants. Our PO includes Adult Day Health Centers and primary care clinics, promoting participant autonomy, quality of life and the ability for individuals to live in their communities

THE POSITION: Under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist, the Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant carries out occupational therapy participant programs, assists in planning and revising program services, provides teaching to participants, caregivers and staff. Assist Occupational Therapist in the daily scheduling of rehab services in ADHC. Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team.

The pay rate range for the Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant at Center for Elders Independence is: $28.97 per hour to $43.46 per hour. Wages are based on the market for the Certified Occupation Therapy Assistant position, as well as experience, skills, abilities and work history.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the occupational therapist in carrying out a plan of care to maximize participants’ ability to be independent balanced against their ability to be safe.
  • As directed by the Occupational Therapist, treat participants on the use of devices, techniques and activities to promote muscle re-education, perceptual-motor and cognitive function, balance, endurance and other factors affecting the level of independence in performing activities of daily living. Reports progress and any changes in participant status to the Occupational Therapist.
  • Instructs and in-services other members of the health team and caregivers on certain areas of occupational therapy in which they may work with the participant.
  • As directed by the plan of care, treats participants in the center, in their homes and/ RCFE to relieve pain, develop or restore function and maintain maximum performance in activities of daily living.
  • Works with vendors to obtain rehabilitative equipment and supplies for participants.
  • Trains family members, other caregivers and CEI staff in methods to maximize safety and functional abilities in performing ADL’s.
  • Orders and delivers items such as minor DME to participants’ residences or between centers.
  • Assists with and/or runs groups as directed by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Attends continuing education and actively participates in meetings and training as required. Maintains the required licensure and certifications.
  • Documents thoroughly, accurately, and timely, and in accordance with Occupational Therapy practice standards and CEI policy.
  • Maintains the department in a clean and orderly manner. Keeps equipment in good working condition.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about participants, clients or families regardless of setting.
  • Handles potentially infectious specimens with appropriate biohazard precautions, and practices Standard precautions.
  • Maintains a courteous, helpful and professional attitude on the job. Displays a willingness and ability to be responsive to all customer groups.
  • Maintains safe working environment. Follows CEI’s Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required or requested in a positive and helpful manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Required, a minimum of an associate's degree and a graduate of an Occupational Therapy Assistant program approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Occupational Therapy Education.
  • Required, currently licensed as an Occupational Therapy Assistant by the Occupational Therapy Board of California.
  • Preferred, one (1) year experience working as a licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant with the frail elderly population.
  • Required, current CPR and First Aid certification on file.
  • A valid California driver’s license, current vehicle insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Ability to travel to multiple work sites and participants’ residences, required.
