Position Description
This is routine work in exercising supervision over and participating in the work of custodial personnel engaged in the performance of buildings and grounds custodial work.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK
Work involves responsibility for a variety of cleaning tasks performed in and around public buildings. Work includes supervising work performed by a small-sized group of subordinate custodial employees. Supervision is received from a superior who checks work periodically for adherence to established schedules and conformance with instructions.
Examples Of Duties And Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Plans, assigns, schedules, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned subordinate custodial personnel; instructs personnel in safety methods, cleaning techniques, and proper use of equipment.
Inspects buildings to insure maintenance or proper standards of cleanliness and neatness, and to detect needs for further custodial work.
Establish schedules and methods for providing custodial services; identify resource needs; review needs with appropriate management staff; allocate resources accordingly.
Monitors contractor performance and maintain an inventory of custodial supplies; prepare requisitions for supplies and equipment.
Participate in the selection of custodial staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
Considerable knowledge of operation methods, supplies and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining office and building areas; safe working practices and techniques.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and techniques of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
Considerable knowledge of OSHA standards; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes and regulations.
Ability to organize, supervise and evaluate the work of lower level staff.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
