Title: Associate Grants Writer
Reports to: Associate Director of Philanthropy
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Wages: $28.00/hour - $30.80/hour
Job Type: Full Time
Location: Pacific Beach Office; Hybrid Eligible
 

Position Summary:

The Associate Grants Writer reports to the Chief Philanthropy Officer and is the lead writer for assigned private grants and supports government grant applications and is assigned goals from the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) and Chief Operating Officer for identifying and researching potential new grant opportunities that align with CCS’ mission and current priorities. Assists with the development of grant proposals, foundation stewardship, and the preparation of reports and other communications. Serves as the primary lead for a portfolio of annual grant renewals and stewardship of private foundation grants ranging from $500 to $10,000. The Associate Grants Writer partners with executive and program leadership to coordinate proposal materials and submit grant applications through various funding platforms. Additionally, the Associate Grants Writer coordinates proposal timelines from development through submission, tracks grant deadlines and deliverables, and prepares award acknowledgment letters.

 

Essential Functions:
• Support grant prospecting, proposal development, submission, and post-award reporting throughout the grant lifecycle.
• Leads writing, editing, and submission of proposals assigned by the CPO.
• Update grant proposal and report templates, and develop data visualizations, including charts and graphs, to strengthen grant narratives. Prepare funder correspondence, including acknowledgment letters, progress updates, and other communications, using approved templates.
• Identify and research grant opportunities that support the CCS mission and funding needs and prepare profiles and briefings for the Grants Team monthly.
• Track grant deadlines for annual reapplications and new opportunities approved for application.
• Coordinate with the Executive Assistant on logistics for grant site visits as needed.
• Support Philanthropy Department fundraising events and support communications efforts, with a focus on written content, such as data for appeals, client vignettes, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements:


Education:


Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.

Experience:
• Three (3) years of experience in grants writing, research, reports, and project management.
• Two (2) years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, including direct experience preparing grant proposals and
grant reports.
• Demonstrated strong persuasive writing and excellent editing skills.

Preferred Experience:
• Ability to synthesize information from various sources to create a unified tone in a variety of writing
assignments.
• Familiarity with research platforms and databases

Working Environment:
Hybrid-model eligible after demonstrated operational proficiency; schedule to be determined in coordination and
approval by supervisor. This job operates in a professional office environment. Some outreach and off-site activities will
be held in other locations, as requested. Must maintain personal cellphone for work-related purposes. Ability to work in
Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), Sexual Assault (SA), and stalking fields. Working conditions may include possible
exposure to communicable diseases related to those typically found in social services settings. Incumbent
must reside in California and within a 75-mile radius of the City of San Diego.

Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully
perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to
talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with
hands and arms. Must be able to carry up to 20lbs.

Travel:
Some travel may be required (up to 15%, mostly within San Diego County). Must have consistent and reliable
transportation available for work-related purposes.

Work Hours:
The employee must be available during Agency working hours of 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and must work 30 hours each
week to maintain full-time status. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
