The Center for Children’s Advocacy’s Medical-Legal Partnership Project (MLPP) has an opening for a Intake Coordinator/Client Advocate to assist the Yale New Haven Health MLPP project attorneys in a nationally recognized interdisciplinary project in our New Haven offices (Yale New Haven Hospital).

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities The Intake Coordinator/Client Advocate will be committed to providing high-quality advocacy and support to children and families served by the MLPP. The ideal candidate is passionate about advocacy, highly organized, a self-starter who takes initiative, and able to build strong relationships with clients experiencing stressful situations.
  • Primary responsibilities include:
  • Conducting initial client intake interviews by phone and in person to obtain relevant information regarding potential legal matters;
  • Coordinating all intake calls, emails, referrals, intake meetings and case assignments;
  • Reviewing intake documentation and analyzing case information to assist attorneys in evaluating legal issues;
  • Preparing and organizing case-related documents, releases, records requests, correspondence, and other materials;
  • Opening cases and maintaining accurate records in CCA's case management system (Legal Files);
  • Communicating with clients following consultation with supervising attorneys to get releases, any other relevant information and, from time to time, to be the main advocate on the case;
  • Meeting with clients to assist with document completion, signatures, and other case-related needs;
  • Providing educational advocacy support and maintaining a small caseload, as assigned;
  • Providing housing advocacy support and maintaining a small caseload for cases not in court, as assigned;
  • Assisting with administrative responsibilities, including scheduling appointments, filing, and maintaining case records; and
  • Supporting attorneys with their current caseload; Working collaboratively with attorneys, medical providers, and community partners to support client advocacy.

We are seeking a candidate with a demonstrated commitment to advocacy on behalf of children and families, along with excellent organizational and administrative skills. Candidates should have:

  • A passion for advocacy and advancing equitable outcomes for children and families;
  • The ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills;
  • The ability to work with people experiencing a crisis or stressful situation;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Experience with direct client contact strongly preferred;
  • Experience reviewing and organizing documents and analyzing case information; Knowledge of education law and housing issues is a plus;
  • Some understanding of poverty law, including public benefits, the Department of Social Services, and housing voucher programs, is preferred;
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and help resolve complex client issues;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams;
  • Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred;
  • Knowledge of child advocacy issues and the health care field is a plus; Transportation and work-related travel required;
  • Bachelor's degree required.

Salary: $25.00-$29.00 per hour depending on experience
