What are the responsibilities and job description for the Victim Services Advocate/CAC facilitator position at Center for Children, Inc?
This position provides advocacy, crisis support and case management services to victims of child abuse, their non-offending family members and caregivers. They are also responsible for managing activities to facilitate the Child Advocacy program team meetings and accreditation and reporting
Responsibilities include:
Agency Outreach
- Initiates and maintains collaborative relationships with police departments, child welfare, district attorney’s office, and medical providers in order to promote victim’s rights and needs, as well as access to the CAC.
- Liaisons and collaborates with other organizations serving the children and victims of violent crime in order to promote victim access to CAC and VOCA services.
Direct Services
- Meets with non-offending caregivers of child victims while forensic interviews are being conducted at the CAC.
- Provides crisis counseling and emotional support for the victims, their families, and their friends during and after the forensic interview.
- Provides information to all victims and family members on Crime Victim Compensation.
- Represents the victim’s interests at CAC team meeting
- Coordinates referral process for medical, mental health and further victim advocacy services
- Provides assistance and referrals for families to other services such as housing, public assistance, food, clothing and domestic abuse services.
Program Outreach and Administration
- Develops and implements case tracking mechanism which provides accurate, useful and accessible date for the CAC and other agencies.
- Provides or participates in educational programs, public presentations, and training activities focusing on the child abuse victims and the non-offending family members..
Internal Agency Administration
- Meets regularly with the Director of CAC regarding (1) the operation of the advocate functions and (2) for support, direction, supervisions, and feedback.
- Participates in monthly case review process.
Education and Skill Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminology, human services, or other related field.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice/legal system.
- Knowledge of issues important and relevant to providing services to victims of violent crimes.
- Ability to work and make decisions independently.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Successful completion of 40-hour training.
- Consistent and reliable access to and availability of means of transportation (positions requires frequent travel).
- Able to work a flexible schedule to adjust to forensic interview schedule and occasional evening or weekend work.
- Meet all required clearances for employment (e.g., IRCA, Criminal Record Check, child abuse clearance, etc.).
