POSITION SUMMARY
The Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE), based in Hardwick, VT, is hiring a Facilities Manager! The Facilities Manager will be responsible for the daily upkeep, physical safety, and preventative maintenance of CAE buildings, equipment, and property. CAE operations are spread between three locations: The Vermont Food Venture Center, which houses commercial kitchens, warehouse space, and our in-house vegetable processing program; the Food Hub, which consists of office space, warehouse space, and our food delivery service, and Atkins Field, a 15-acre green space used by the Hardwick community and owned and maintained by CAE. This critical position will be part of the “on-call” response team when issues that impact critical operations arise. The Facilities Manager will work collaboratively with staff and clients across CAE programs, and in multiple physical locations to proactively address facility needs, sanitation, and safety regulations. : $27 to $30/ hour, based on experience, non-exempt

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Physical Site Management VFVC and Food Hub 60%

• Ensure facilities are safe and prepared for daily operations, daily monitoring of infrastructure
• Support and adhere to food safety and regulatory compliance requirements
• Perform daily grounds and sanitation responsibilities alongside assisting staff
• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs for commercial kitchens, food production equipment, loading docks, pallet jacks, plumbing, electrical and office maintenance
• Manage maintenance schedules and annual servicing of fire alarm, sprinkler system and fire extinguisher inspections, refrigeration compressors and evaporators, HVAC, solar
• Maintain excellent records of maintenance schedules and critical tasks
• Good communication, organizational and people skills
• Transporting equipment as necessary with CAE vehicles

Administrative Responsibilities 20%

• Act as a primary member of the Emergency Response Team, on call in the event of a serious weather event or emergency
• Work with staff to ensure CAE physical sites comply with all state and federal regulations
• Coordinate with other staff to find efficiencies and solutions to challenges
• Obtain bids, estimates, and details related to managing infrastructure and equipment
• Assist in building annual facilities budget, identifying necessary items for facilities

VFVC Warehouse 10%

• Clean and maintain the VFVC warehouse in an orderly manner
• Assist staff with keeping VFVC warehouse organized

Additional Responsibilities: 10%

• Assist in Just Cut kitchen if an urgent situation requires
• Member of the Safety Team
• Coordinate all exterior grounds maintenance (snow plowing, sanding, mowing)
• Support repairs as needed at Atkins Field

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Physical Demands/lifting requirements:

• Moderate to vigorous physical labor: lifting, pulling and carrying: frequently lifting/moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally up to 70–100 pounds with assistance.
• Body movements: standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling
• Climbing/balancing: working at heights using ladders or lifts for inspections or repairs
• Manual dexterity: using hands, power tools, and testing equipment to operate machinery.
• Work in varying temperatures such as cooler, freezer, warehouse, or outdoors in all weather conditions
• Repetitive movement with keyboard and mouse

• Ability to prioritize complex and competing demands
• Ability to communicate well under pressure both orally and in writing
• Able to think critically and exercise sound judgment when making decisions
