Job description:
The Scrub Technologist is responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, and efficient surgery team support within a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center. The ideal candidate is an experienced scrub tech with strong ophthalmology experience and the ability to anticipate surgeon needs, maintain aseptic technique, and collaborate seamlessly with a multidisciplinary team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare operating rooms according to scheduled procedures, ensuring all sterile instruments, supplies, implants, and equipment are available and functioning properly.
- Demonstrate expertise in surgery setup, instrumentation, microsurgical equipment, and case flow; ophthalmic experience is strongly preferred; neurosurgery experience is a plus.
- Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control practices in compliance with current evidence-based standards and ASC policies.
- Anticipate surgeon needs and manage the sterile field throughout each procedure, ensuring safe and efficient case progression.
- Assist surgeons by passing instruments, holding retractors, preparing instruments, and other technical tasks within CST scope.
- Assist with patient positioning, room turnover, and case preparation to support rapid and efficient OR workflow.
- Participate in equipment setup, including microscopes and any specialty devices; troubleshoot basic equipment issues as needed.
- Accurately document counts, implant logs, and other required perioperative documentation.
- Follow all patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory guidelines while supporting a culture of continuous improvement.
- Engage in ongoing professional development, staying current with best practices, ASC standards, and specialty-specific updates.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment, supporting coworkers and promoting efficient case flow.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program is required.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) strongly preferred.
- Ophthalmology scrub experience strongly preferred, neurosurgery experience a plus.
- A minimum of 1 year of surgical technology is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sterile technique, aseptic practices, and infection control standards.
- Excellent anticipation skills and situational awareness during surgical procedures.
- BLS certification required.
- SC Drivers License (Required)
**No Nights, Weekends or Major Holidays. Competitive benefits and pay scale. Surgeries are scheduled 5 days a week.
