About CAPTRS: CAPTRS (Center for Advanced Preparedness and Threat Response Simulation) is a nonprofit organization that designs and delivers innovative serious games to help decision-makers test strategies, practice coordination, and strengthen resilience before real-world emergencies occur. Our games are used by leaders in public health, emergency management, government and other sectors to explore threats such as pandemics, natural disasters, cyberattacks, and infrastructure failures.
We are a small, entrepreneurial, fully remote team with big ambitions. Every member of our team contributes both strategically and creatively, and this role is an opportunity to shape not only CAPTRS’ growth but also the evolution of how our games are used.
Position Overview: The Partnerships & Business Development Manager will play a pivotal role in expanding CAPTRS’ reach and impact. Working under the VP of Partnerships, this person will drive revenue by identifying and closing new clients, securing grants, and representing CAPTRS at conferences and gaming exercises. Because we are a small team, this position goes beyond traditional business development. You will also work closely with the game development team, bringing back client insights to shape new game systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Build and manage a pipeline of leads, from prospecting to closing, to meet annual revenue targets.
- Cultivate new clients across sectors including government, public health, emergency management, infrastructure, and humanitarian response.
- Research and secure grant opportunities; write and submit compelling proposals alongside an external grant writer.
Marketing & Representation
- Represent CAPTRS at conferences, gaming exercises and other events to raise visibility and develop new relationships.
- Coordinate follow-up and marketing efforts to convert interest into long-term partnerships.
Client Engagement & Game Development
- Work alongside the VP of Partnerships to understand clients’ needs and represent those needs to the broader team.
- Collaborate with the game development and product team leads to ensure CAPTRS’ products remain relevant, impactful, and user-friendly.
- Provide feedback on prototypes and contribute to testing, alongside the team.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, nonprofit management, public health, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in business development, fundraising, or partnerships; nonprofit and/or social impact sector experience strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue and funding goals.
- Experience in grant writing, donor cultivation and donor management systems, such as Salesforce.
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Entrepreneurial and proactive—able to generate your own leads and close them. ● Comfortable working in a small, remote team environment where adaptability and creativity are essential.
- Interest in games, simulations, or decision-support tools a strong plus.
- Experience in and understanding of government contracts, systems and purchasing a strong plus. Personal Attributes

Salary & Benefits:
While you are employed by CAPTRS, you will be eligible to participate in all employee benefits provided to full-time employees. These will include:
- Medical and Dental Insurance: You are eligible for coverage under Blue Cross Blue Shield’s medical and dental insurance plans on the first calendar day of your first full month with CAPTRS. CAPTRS will cover 100% of insurance premiums for employee-only
