Responsibilities
Instruction & Planning
- Plan and deliver daily instruction in Algebra I in a hybrid environment that combines in-person, virtual, and asynchronous instruction
- Assist middle school math teachers in designing differentiated lesson plans for students in PreAlgebra.
- Demonstrate knowledge of resources, student needs, curriculum (Eureka Squared), content, and pedagogy; engage students in learning with quality questioning and discussion techniques.
- Set instructional outcomes and design student assessments; use student data to inform instruction and to integrate differentiated instruction.
- Create an environment of respect and rapport; establish a culture of learning.
- Manage classroom procedures and student behavior by communicating directions, expectations, and procedures to students.
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness.
- Engage parents and families in their child’s academic success by fostering an ongoing relationship centered around hopes and dreams.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records; post Algebra I grades in a timely fashion.
- Participate in the Center City PCS learning community via PLC’s and district-wide professional development.
- Reflect on teaching by accepting ongoing formal and informal feedback, and implement changes based on feedback.
- Follow school-wide procedures for attire, behavior, and punctuality (teacher hours are 8:00AM - 4:00PM).
- Attend and participate in occasional school events outside of regular school hours.
- Support middle school math teachers in designing and implementing differentiated PreAlgebra lesson plans for accelerated 7th grade students.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and support for and lead the PLC for Algebra GO Fellows and/or middle school instructional support personnel.
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable subject area; Master’s Degree in education or related field preferred
- Minimum of 4 years of mathematics teaching experience in grades 6-12
- At least 2 years of teacher coaching experience, preferred
- State certification in secondary math, OR score of 159 on PRAXIS test for secondary mathematics (test code 5165)
- Familiarity with Common Core Shifts in Mathematics and the Eureka Squared Curriculum (preferred)
- Demonstrated ability to use data to assess student learning, with evidence of student growth
- References that reflect high standing with past employer
- Able to lift up to 10 pounds and able to stand for long hours
- Ability to travel between multiple campuses in DC
