POSITIONS:  Educational Assistant - Transition Program

LOCATION:  Centennial Transition Center

HOURS:  7 Hours Per Day (8:30am - 4:00pm)

CALENDAR:  193 Days Per Year (Approximately); August - June

SALARY:  $21.59 - $29.89 Per Hour (Range E)

BENEFITS:  PERS, Medical, Dental, Vision, Optional Insurances, Paid Leaves, Holiday Pay, etc.

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT(S):  The job of Educational Assistant – Transition Program is to assist a certified teacher in planning and implementation of instructional programs for students age 18 -21.  This can be accomplished through 1:1 and small group instruction within the Transition Center, in the community, or on a job site.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the assessment of student job needs, abilities and interests.
  • Assist students to learn particular work site and job skills.
  • Serve as a travel trainer in assisting students to learn public transportation skills.
  • Participate in team and IEP meetings regarding student suitability, work experience opportunities and student progress.
  • Prepare reports and maintain files on work experiences.
  • Provide direct/indirect supervision to students on job sites, as negotiated with on-site supervisors/teachers.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Observe students at job and bus sites, gather work and transportation performance data and provide ongoing support and assistance to students and employers at work sites.
  • Coordinate with teacher to report progress, analyze problem areas and develop strategies.
  • Provide information to appropriate parties as necessary.
  • Assist in development of work sites within the school district and in the community.
  • Attend training sessions and meetings to keep current on policies and procedures and to improve skills and knowledge of job training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS – QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience Preferred: Prior job related experience in working with students of special needs.  Experience working wth 18-21 year olds preferred.
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

General skills in communicating effectively with students and adults in a supportive role; preference and ability to work with students with disabilities in school or community settings.

 

General knowledge in working effectively with students, teachers, parents, community agencies, and employers.

 

General abilities to work independently and be self-directed; effective communication with students, teachers, parents, community agencies, and employers; understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies.  Physical abilities include talking/hearing/near/far visual acuity and ability to walk long distances.  Ability to navigate public transportation.

 

Ability to speak a second language preferred.

  • Education Required:  Associate’s (or higher) degree; completed at least two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education; or met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment (a) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics; or (b) knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading readiness, writing and readiness, and mathematics readiness as appropriate.
  • Licenses, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (applicant agrees to assume cost upon offer of employment).  Valid driver’s license, own transportation, and driving record acceptable to agency carrier.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board’s Policy on Evaluation of Support Staff Personnel.  Reports to appropriate supervisor.
