School Based Prevention Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY

The School-Based Prevention Specialist will plan, coordinate and implement prevention services to school districts throughout Centennial’s 10 county catchment area. Prevention activities will include training of students and school staff through in-services and workshops, assisting districts in development of screening and prevention programs, provision of evidence based curriculum and materials. The School-Based Prevention Specialist will be available to facilitate school based prevention services and assist in establishing response and referral protocols.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Establish ongoing collaborative relationships with school districts to establish and meet the needs of prevention services throughout Centennial’s 10 county catchment area.
• Work in conjunction with the School-Based Mental Health Specialist (SBMHS) to coordinate prevention trainings in schools and assist with resource development for additional school-based services.
• Work in conjunction with the SBMHS and school districts to implement on-site consultation, training and support.
• Serve as primary provider for evidence based curriculum delivery within school districts for 3rd-12th grade students.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous skill development to competently serve schools with diverse cultures and backgrounds.
• Provide information and connection to community resources and public benefits.
• Refer students for ongoing behavioral health services when necessary.
• Maintain timely records and data collection for measuring goals and outcomes of the program and services.
• Attend trainings, workshops, conferences and meetings that will further the ability to consult in the school setting.
• Frequently travel to various school districts within Centennial’s 10 county catchment area. Non-traditional working hours may be required to meet the needs of these school districts.
• Performs other job duties as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION

Certified Addictions Specialist, Bachelor’s Degree in related field, or Certified Prevention Specialist II preferred but not required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES

• Experience in classroom management and working with educators, children and adolescents in a school-based setting.
• Knowledge and skill sets directly related to prevention, intervention and referral for treatment of school-aged children.
• Competency working with educators, school administrators and students from various backgrounds.
• Adjusts flexibly to new situations encountered on a daily basis and has the ability to learn new duties quickly.

• Knowledge of basic computer literacy such as e-mail communication and word processing.
