Curriculum hourly rate:  Hourly Rate to be determined

POSITION TITLE
Summer Learning Program Teacher

REPORTS TO
Building Principal and/or Summer Learning Program Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY
Provides direct instruction and academic support to elementary students participating in the district’s summer learning program. Delivers engaging, evidence-based instruction with a strong emphasis on literacy development, student growth, and equitable access. Supports the goals of the Oregon Department of Education summer learning grant, district instructional priorities, and the overall success of participating students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide direct instruction to students in literacy and other assigned academic areas.
  • Deliver lessons that support grade-level standards, literacy acceleration, and student skill development.
  • Use evidence-based instructional strategies and approved instructional materials.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of individual students and small groups.
  • Provide intervention, reteaching, and enrichment as appropriate.
  • Support student engagement through structured, meaningful, and developmentally appropriate learning activities.
  • Monitor student progress toward academic goals, particularly in literacy.
  • Administer assessments or collect student performance data as required by the program.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student records, including attendance, participation, and academic progress.
  • Share student progress information with the Summer Learning Program Coordinator or district leadership as requested.
  • Use student data to adjust instruction and support student learning.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and positive classroom environment.
  • Use effective classroom management and behavior support strategies.
  • Build positive relationships with students and encourage regular participation.
  • Support students who need additional academic, social, emotional, or behavioral assistance.
  • Follow district expectations for student supervision, safety, and conduct.
  • Implement instruction consistent with district goals, summer program expectations, and state literacy priorities.
  • Collaborate with the Summer Learning Program Coordinator, instructional staff, educational assistants, and other program personnel.
  • Participate in required planning, training, and staff meetings.
  • Support continuity of learning between the regular school year and summer programming.
  • Assist with program activities, transitions, and supervision as needed.
  • Support equitable access and meaningful participation for all students.
  • Use inclusive and culturally responsive instructional practices.
  • Help ensure that students identified as priority groups under the grant are supported and engaged.
  • Foster a classroom environment where all students feel welcome, safe, and capable of success.
  • Communicate with students, families, and staff regarding student progress, needs, and successes as appropriate.
  • Refer parent or guardian questions and concerns to the Summer Learning Program Coordinator when needed.
  • Support positive communication between the school, program staff, students, and families.
  • Follow district policies, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and school-related information in accordance with district policy and privacy laws.
  • Complete required documentation in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Act as a mandatory reporter and immediately report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with state law and district procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Hold, or be eligible to obtain, a valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement(s).
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to pass required background and fingerprint checks.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening (UA test) if required by the district.

Preferred

  • Previous elementary teaching experience.
  • Experience with literacy instruction, intervention, or summer learning programs.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including varied academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies, assessment practices, and classroom management techniques.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • School environment with frequent interaction with students and staff.
  • Temporary summer contract position, typically operating for approximately four weeks.
  • Additional planning or training time may be required prior to program start.
  • Requires daily on-site attendance during program dates.
  • Requires standing, walking, and classroom movement throughout the day.
  • May include indoor and outdoor supervision and responding to student behavioral or emotional needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Work year, wages, hours, and benefits are governed by the applicable licensed collective bargaining agreement, if applicable.
  • Continued employment is contingent upon successful background and fingerprint clearance, passing any required pre-employment drug screening, and maintenance of required licensure.
