Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Field Operations, the Water Operator manages, operates, monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots the potable water treatment and distribution systems and wastewater collection systems of various municipalities. Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of the operations, semi-skilled labor in the operation and maintenance; collection and documentation of all operations and regulatory requirements; and strict compliance with state and federal operating regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee daily operations of water treatment and distribution systems and wastewater collection systems.
- Make minor adjustments on service equipment; maintain tools and equipment in working order.
- Maintain logs of daily activities.
- Operate and maintain wells, reservoirs, and treatment facilities; inspect residential and commercial service issues.
- Perform the full range of collection maintenance duties including sewer system maintenance and repair.
- Monitor and adjust water production and treatment equipment.
- Perform field duties related to the water system; take water samples and inspect new construction.
- Identify service and main leaks; operate pipe locators; install and inspect backflow devices.
- Read and update water distribution and sewer collection maps and as-built plans and blueprints.
- Perform emergency repairs to water and sewer lines as necessary; establish proper traffic control devices.
- On call to respond to emergencies and breakdowns in the water treatment and distribution system or wastewater collection system.
- Perform all work in conformance to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations.
- Perform related duties as required.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EQUIPMENT & OTHER:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and five (5) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Principles and practices of water distribution and wastewater collection system maintenance and repair.
- Basic principles of water treatment and wastewater collections.
- Common tools, materials, motorized vehicles, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems.
- Pumps, valves, and backflow devices.
- Basic mathematical principles.
- Safe work practices and policies.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE ISTRATIONS:
- Possession of a Level II, or III Water Operator License issued by the State Licensing Board
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid C.P.R. Certificate
