Job Title: Underground Surveyor
Department: Site – Henderson
Reports to: Project Engineer
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)
This position is responsible for establishing, maintaining, and verifying underground survey control to support the safe and accurate development of mine infrastructure. This position provides line and grade layouts for multiple active headings and construction activities, ensuring excavation, drilling, and construction work are completed in accordance with design requirements. The Underground Surveyor works closely with operations, engineering, and the client to deliver timely survey data, as-built documentation, and accurate mine mapping that supports project execution and mine planning.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Client Relations
- Coordinate survey activities with operations, engineering, client representatives, and other contractors to support project objectives.
Functional Responsibilities
- Establish, maintain, and verify underground survey control.
- Provide line and grade layouts and alignments for mine development, longhole drilling, raiseboring, underground construction, and complex excavations.
- Install, operate, and maintain survey instruments, scanners, laser systems, and related survey equipment.
- Perform as-built surveys and maintain survey records, plans, maps, and QA/QC documentation.
- Prepare survey calculations, reports, quantity measurements, and advance tracking data.
- Produce and distribute survey drawings and mine maps.
- Provide technical survey support to engineering, construction, and operations teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of underground multi-heading mine development surveying experience preferred. Equivalent experience supporting underground construction, single-heading development, or civil tunneling may be considered.
- High School Diploma required; technical training in surveying, mining, or engineering technology preferred.
Certificate(s), License(s), Registration(s)
- MSHA Underground Certification preferred
- Valid Driver's License
Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of underground hardrock mine surveying, including survey control, coordinate systems, resection, and conventional traverse.
- Proficient with Leica TS16 and MS60 survey instruments, data collectors, and related survey software.
- Proficient in AutoCAD; Carlson and Deswik experience preferred.
- Experience with line and grade laser systems, survey scanners, and other modern survey technologies.
- Effective communication with miners, engineers, and supervisors.
- Planning, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work safely and independently in an underground mining environment.
