Position Overview:
The Virginia Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated and skilled Dentist to provide comprehensive dental care services to the inmate population at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Troy, VA. This is a rewarding full-time opportunity to make a significant impact on the health and well-being of an underserved population within a secure and structured environment. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, proficient in a wide range of dental procedures, and committed to upholding the highest standards of patient care and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide a full range of dental services to an adult female inmate population, including examinations, diagnoses, and treatment planning.
- Perform routine and emergency dental procedures such as cleanings, fillings, extractions, root canals, and other necessary treatments.
- Develop and implement preventative dental care programs and provide oral hygiene education to patients.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient dental records in accordance with VADOC policies and industry standards.
- Ensure adherence to all infection control, safety, and security protocols within the dental clinic.
- Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals, correctional staff, and administrative personnel.
- Manage dental supplies and equipment, ensuring proper maintenance and inventory levels.
- May supervise dental assistants and/or hygienists as part of the dental care team.
Qualifications:
- Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
- Current, unrestricted license to practice dentistry in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Current DEA registration (if applicable).
- Current CPR/BLS certification.
- Ability to work effectively within a correctional environment and with a diverse patient population.
- Strong clinical, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical dental practices.
- Experience in a correctional or public health setting is preferred but not required.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Annual salary of $235,040.
