Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility to promote independence and dignity
- Take and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates with accuracy and professionalism
- Support medical procedures by preparing patients and assisting with tasks like catheter care, wound care, or basic medication administration under supervision
- Maintain detailed and compliant medical documentation using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Transfer patients safely using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or other patient transfer methods while adhering to safe lifting practices
- Observe and report changes in patient condition or behavior promptly to nursing staff, especially in critical care environments like ICU or trauma centers
- Engage in infection control practices through aseptic techniques and proper hand hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases
- Provide compassionate emotional support to patients with dementia or memory care needs, including those receiving hospice or palliative care
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from an accredited program
- Proven experience working with diverse populations such as geriatrics, pediatrics, or individuals with disabilities in settings like long-term care facilities, assisted living, or hospitals
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate medical documentation
- Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, and basic life support (BLS) certification required; CPR certification preferred
- Experience working in specialized environments such as ICU, emergency medicine, trauma centers (Level I & II), or post-acute care is highly valued
- Ability to perform manual handling tasks including heavy lifting and safe patient transfers using appropriate equipment
- Strong communication skills for caregiving interactions and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA standards at all times
