About The Role
As a Medical Assistant in our MFM department, you will play a key role in patient intake, coordination, clinical support, and ensuring a positive, reassuring patient experience. Patients seen in MFM often require additional time, compassion, and clarity — and this role is vital in delivering that level of care.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Support
- Conduct patient intake, including vitals, medical/obstetric history, medication lists, and allergies, documenting accurately in Athena EMR.
- Prepare exam rooms for MFM consultations, high‑risk obstetrical evaluations, fetal monitoring, and ultrasound‑based visits.
- Assist providers during MFM‑specific visits such as:
- High‑risk prenatal evaluations
- Diabetes, hypertension, or other medical complication consults
- Genetic counseling support sessions
- Assist in obtaining fetal heart tones (as directed), support ultrasound workflows, and coordinate diagnostic testing.
- Collect and process urine, blood, and culture specimens following safety and infection control protocols.
- Maintain sterile instruments, prepare procedure trays, and support efficient exam room turnover.
- Ensure accurate, compliant chart documentation and contribute to seamless patient flow.
- Provide warm, respectful, and empathetic care to patients navigating high‑risk pregnancies.
- Support patient comfort during sensitive or stressful appointments and communicate instructions clearly.
- Ensure proper PPE use and uphold strict infection-control standards.
- Work closely with clinical and front‑office staff to support efficient scheduling and workflow for a small MFM provider team.
- Support coordination with referring OB/GYN practices and specialists.
- Assist with special projects or evolving clinical needs.
- Provide coverage at other practice locations as needed.
- Certification or experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in women’s health or MFM/OB.
- Skilled in phlebotomy, specimen handling, NST administration, and sterile technique; adherence to OSHA guidelines.
- Experience with Athena EMR.
- Strong communication skills and a patient‑centered approach.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- One year of experience in an OB/GYN, MFM, or women’s health specialty setting.
- One year of experience using Athena EMR.
