What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Merchandising Strategy position at CEFCO Convenience Stores?
The Director of Merchandising Strategy is responsible for developing and executing center of store merchandising strategies, in conjunction with their Category Managers, that align with the company’s new brand strategy. These strategies will resonate with our target consumers and utilize business levers to ensure flawless in-store execution, achieve customer satisfaction, and increased visit frequency.

This position executes the plan to achieve brand and revenue goals, sales profits, and profit maximization. Key responsibilities include:
- Develops retail sales strategic objectives that align and meet CEFCO organizational goals and metrics.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams such as CEFCO Marketing, Field Operations, and Category Management to develop and flawlessly execute merchandising plans and innovative campaigns that drive new traffic, pump-to- store conversion, bigger basket size, and dollar sales.
- Partners with the business analytics team to analyze internal data and syndicated/3rd party consumer, market, and industry data, to guide, track, and evaluate merchandising and pricing strategies.
- Evaluates center of store product category mix to identify simplification of the merchandise set and determine opportunities for expansion into new categories and services.
- Maintains strategic supplier and distributor relationships to maximize access to value-added resources and funding support that achieve key business objectives.
- Leads team in ongoing competitive research to identify new and emerging trends that translate into current and future business plans.
- Mentors and develops category management team and provides support, feedback, coaching to build future leaders.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, or similar degree. 5-7 years of CPG or Retailer experience; solid track record of successfully developing/implementing fact-based strategic decisions, managing execution and measuring results; previous (recent) experience with consumer packed goods sales and marketing, space planning and category management; must have understanding of DSD, distributor and strong knowledge of the retail environment, excellent follow-up, communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
