REPORTING TO THIS POSITION: Student workers
EMPLOYEE CLASSIFICATION: Staff, Non-Exempt; Full-Time Time; 12 month, (2080 annual hours)
POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Groundskeeper plays an important role in creating and maintaining the beauty and welcoming atmosphere of the Cedarville University campus. This position is responsible for the care and upkeep of landscaped areas, including planting, cultivating, and maintaining trees, grass, flowers, and shrubs. Duties include ing fertilizers, herbicides, and pest control treatments; preparing soil for planting; mowing, trimming, and watering lawns; and pruning trees and shrubs. The Groundskeeper also assists with installing and maintaining drainage systems to ensure the health and appearance of campus landscapes. This role requires skill in operating a variety of hand tools and power equipment, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and excellence. The Groundskeeper actively supports the mission of the university by contributing to a clean, beautiful, and well-maintained environment that enhances the experience of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree in Ornamental Horticulture preferred. 2 years of experience in landscaping, hardscaping, etc. will meet this requirement.
Have or will work to obtain Commercial Applicator Pesticide License.
Training procedures required on all equipment and vehicles. Complete list of equipment and training approval on file
Skill in planting, cultivating, and maintaining trees, shrubs, and lawns
Skill in working with materials
Current state driver's license
GENERAL PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS:
- Be in agreement with the Doctrinal Statement, Community Covenant and General Work Place Standards of Cedarville University.
REQUIRED MENTAL/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
- Sufficient physical ability to do heavy manual labor such as the installation of lawns and
shoveling of snow, occasionally lifting 50 lb. bags, and pushing, pulling or dragging items of up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to work on uneven surfaces and in all kinds of weather conditions with frequent
exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, chemicals, or hazardous conditions.
Ability to communicate effectively and positively with faculty, staff & students in writing, on the telephone, email, radio and in person.
Self-directed and possess a sincere desire to excel in performance of duties.
