POSITION TITLE:Staff Accountant
DEPARTMENT: Accounting and Finance
DIVISION: Business
POSITION REPORTS TO:Director of Accounting Services
EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Staff, Exempt, Full-time, 12 month (2080 annual hours)

POSITION SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Staff Accountant supports the Accounting and Finance Department by performing key accounting functions including journal entries, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance activities. This position is essential to the accuracy of financial data and contributes to the success of audits and regulatory reporting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:
Weekly:
- Post journal entries and gift batch sessions.
- Reconcile daily cash deposits and prepare related entries.
- Review, analyze, and post Campus Store sales reports.
Monthly:
- Post journal entries and review the general ledger.
- Complete bank and payroll withholding reconciliations.
- Analyze balance sheet accounts and clear stale-dated or NSF checks.
- Reconcile gift holding and purchasing card accounts.
- Maintain audit documentation and fixed asset schedules.
- Prepare and post capitalization entries.
- and process cleared checks from bank in ERP system.
General Duties:
- Assist in developing and reviewing internal control documentation.
- Support year-end tax processing (1098-T, 1099-MISC, 1099-NEC) and respond to related inquiries.
- Provide data and assistance for compliance reports (990, EADA, NCAA, FISAP, IPEDS, etc.) and audits.
- Participate in cash flow planning.
- Manage accounting functions for In Progress LLC, including journal entries and reconciliations.
- Coordinate the processing of state unclaimed funds and property/sales tax payments.
- Maintain vehicle title and insurance records.
- Manage user access to Self-Service Finance Query.
- Process and distribute month-end reports.
- Perform additional analysis and projects assigned by the Director of Accounting Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (preferred) or actively pursuing a degree in accounting or a related field.
- Familiarity and experience with an ERP system.
- Ability to use AI-driven accounting and analysis tools to streamline processes and identify trends or discrepancies in financial data.
- Ability to build ad hoc reports/analysis.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables/macros).

- Identify, analyze, and correct complex financial issues promptly.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in both written and verbal forms.

- Ability to climb stairs multiple times per day.
