Job Title: Teacher - Spanish 7-12                     Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with an innovative learning environment that challenges them with rigorous, authentic, and engaging learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.  Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certificate - Languages Other Than English (LOTE) - Spanish EC-12

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of secondary CTE Engineering courses 
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • New Tech Network 
  • Project-Based Learning design and implementation
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

  • Project-Based Learning preferred OR Desired
  • Evidence of student teaching or participation in an approved internship program

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement PBL projects that fulfill the requirements of the school’s PBL curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare projects that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect an understanding of Project-Based Learning and the needs of students assigned.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Modify instruction as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Collaborate with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.  Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students, and support the mission of the school.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.  
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, administrators, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports, records, and other documents.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as required by the supervisor. 

Student Growth and Development:

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits for life-long learning.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support the mission of the school district.

Classroom Management and Organization:

  • Use strategies to motivate students for learning and maintain a supportive environment.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and the student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to ensure a safe environment for students. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Use technology to support classroom management tasks.

Communication:

  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development:

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills as listed in local Board policy.
  • Exhibit a willingness to collaborate with colleagues and other professionals for continuous growth and development.

Other:

  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations, including policies and guidelines for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Knowledge of campus improvement plan, curriculum standards, and implementation of applicable components.
