What are the responsibilities and job description for the Speech and Language Pathologist position at Cedar Springs Public Schools?

Cedar Springs Public Schools is seeking a qualified and exemplary Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our Special Education team for the 2026-2027 school year and beyond.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Experience working with students of various ages and disabilities
  • Demonstrate knowledge of special education rules and timelines, including professional standards and expectations that lead to student success.
  • Uses principles of multi-tiered systems of supports within the school setting.
  • Ability to work with students, parents, and community agencies in a positive manner and regularly engages in two-way communication between stakeholders regarding progress.
  • Facilitate, attend, and participate in the individualized educational planning team, data review, annual review, and behavior plan meetings.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of assessments involving all relevant special education disability areas.
  • Provide direct speech and language therapy services to students utilizing up-to-date methodology and research-based practices.
  • Provides appropriate individualized therapy to meet students’ needs and correct existing speech or language impairments with accurate service log documentation.
  • Consult with classroom teachers and advocate for the needs of students
  • Accurately identify issues based on data to identify causes and dynamics for underlying student concerns
  • Understand and teach non-verbal communication systems including the use of assistive technology devices
  • Evaluates students referred by the school, parents, physicians using KISD guidelines, and best practices with accuracy and detail.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports in an organized, confidential, and timely manner.
  • Maintains a reliable and consistent work schedule.
  • Provides research-based & best practice information, support, and counseling to parents and families when appropriate
  • Participates in the ongoing district-wide implementation of best practices and contributes to the skill development of staff.
  • Follows district policies and implements district curricula and policies.
  • Use self-reflection and feedback to promote professional growth and development for the purpose of improving instructional practice and student learning.
  • Understands and accepts the diverse backgrounds of others and how diversity impacts communication.
  • Understands culturally responsive, disability-specific, and trauma-informed practices. Ability to learn and implement social thinking and approaches specific to students with Autism.
  • Obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the HR office
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in speech and language pathology
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) required or a valid Michigan Teacher’s Certificate with full approval in speech and language impairment
  • Licensed in Speech-Language Pathology by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs-Board of Speech
  • Demonstrated technology skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent team and interpersonal skills
  • Effective collaboration and interpersonal skills for building an environment of trust and a common instructional focus
  • Ability to communicate well at various levels with students, parents, and school personnel
  • Evidence of a positive attitude and human relation skills
  • Evidence of high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in personal and professional matters
  • High level of flexibility

REPORTS TO: Director of Early Childhood and Special Education


START DATE:

SALARY RANGE:
Per agreement with the CSEA

Cedar Springs Public Schools is a Preschool through 12th-grade public school consisting of over 3,000 students and nearly 400 employees. We are located within the city limits of Cedar Springs, Michigan in Kent County. Cedar Springs Public Schools is one of 22 member public school districts within the Kent Intermediate School District (KISD). We are unique in that our schools are all located within a single campus setting with the exception of the Middle School which is located 1 mile south of the main campus. The setting is secure, picturesque, and allows easy access for families participating in activities for more than one child.
