Café Team Member (Cross-Trained: Front & Back of House)

Position Overview
We are looking for a friendly, energetic Café Team Member who will be cross-trained in both Back of House (BOH) and Front of House (FOH) operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, works well in a fast-paced environment, and can deliver excellent customer service while maintaining high-quality food and beverage standards.
Key Responsibilities
Front of House (FOH) – Barista & Guest Service
- Prepare a full range of espresso drinks, teas, and specialty beverages according to café standards
- Greet guests with a positive attitude; take orders and answer menu questions
- Bus tables, wipe surfaces, and maintain a clean and welcoming dining area
- Run food and drinks to tables efficiently
- Restock FOH items (cups, lids, syrups, pastries, condiments, etc.)
- Keep the lobby, drink station, and pastry case clean, organized, and presentable
Back of House (BOH) – Prep & Kitchen Support
- Prepare sandwiches, breakfast items, and café menu items with consistency and accuracy
- Complete food prep tasks: chopping, portioning, mixing, labeling, and storing items according to food-safety standards
- Operate small kitchen equipment (convection ovens, panini press, slicer, etc.)
- Follow recipes and plating guidelines
- Wash dishes, sanitize workspaces, and maintain clean prep areas
- Rotate inventory and follow FIFO procedures
- Assist with stocking deliveries and organizing back-of-house storage
General Responsibilities
- Maintain excellent food safety, cleanliness, and health-code compliance at all times
- Work collaboratively with the café team and communicate clearly
- Follow opening, mid-shift, and closing checklists
- Support the café’s overall appearance, including sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and general cleaning
- Jump into any area as needed during busy periods
- Represent Cedar’s Coppice with professionalism and warmth
Qualifications
- Prior café, barista, or kitchen experience preferred but not required
- Ability to multitask and stay organized under pressure
- Comfortable working on your feet for extended periods (10–16 hours in some cases)
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Willingness to learn both barista skills and kitchen preparation
- Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
- Food Handler’s certification (or willingness to obtain one)
Schedule & Compensation
- Flexible scheduling with evening and weekend shifts
- Weekend availability required
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience
