Maintenance Mechanic (Industrial Technician)

Overview:
Principal Duties: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and the Foreman, the Industrial Maintenance Technician - is responsible for the following:

- Ability to diagnose and make repairs to Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems found in school buildings.
- Possess advanced technical troubleshooting and root-cause problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work from and read sketches, blueprints, and specification manuals from oral or written instructions.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Knowledge of industrial safety precautions, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), NFPA 70E, and trade hazards.
- Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to perform demanding tasks including lifting, bending, climbing, and working from ladders and lifts or scaffolding.
- Must be willing to work under adverse weather conditions.
- Varied work day (hours can vary from 1st shift 7:00am3:30pm to 2nd shift 11:00am7:30pm and others as necessary).
- Capable of representing the school District in a professional manner, which includes but is not limited to confidentiality, communication skills, and ability to present a professional personal image.
- Ability to work under pressure with frequent interruptions.
- Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid Iowa State Driver's license with a record that's satisfactory to the District and the District's insurance carrier (required).
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic mathematical functions such as addition, subtractions, multiplication, division, percentages, decimals and fractions.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve problems effectively. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff and students. Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle and/or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk and hear. Applicants must be able to lift 50 lbs frequently. Applicants must be able to climb up and down ladders and work from a platform lift. Sufficient physical strength and ability to perform manual labor and to work from ladders and scaffolding. Must be in excellent physical condition. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus while working with equipment, computers, written materials, reports, assessment data, etc.
Required Education Level:
High School diploma or GED
Salary and Benefits:
Hourly Rate: $24.22 entry rate, $30.74 with Journeyman License or equivalent certification.
Salary and benefits in accordance with the work agreement with the Cedar Rapids Custodial & Maintenance Employee Association, including but not limited to a healthcare package, paid vacation, IPERS retirement program, etc.
