ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  1. Carries out the Iowa Standards for School Leaders.

  2. Ensures clear and measurable goals are established, focused, and monitored to improve overall student achievement. 

  3. Provides instructional leadership within the school setting.

  4. Leads, facilitates and supports the work of Professional Learning Communities within the school setting.

  5. Leads the school learning organization by creating a collaborative culture of continuous improvement.

  6. Establishes and fosters a professional learning community which emphasizes common expectations and the collective review of student performance data.

  7. Documents improvement in student achievement and social, emotional, and behavioral development.  Endorses Positive Behavior Supports Intervention (PBIS) program.

  8. Incorporates ethical principles in all decision-making processes, and treats all members of the school community with fairness, equity, dignity and respect.

  9. Effectively communicates, uses consensus building and conflict resolution techniques, and problem solving skills

  10. Leads and engages stakeholders in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school improvement plan.

  11. Monitors, evaluates and reports progress in student achievement and school improvement initiatives to stakeholders.

  12. Establishes and conveys high expectations for self, colleagues and students.

  13. Positively impacts the performance of building employees through effective mentoring, supervision, and evaluation.

  14. Guides curriculum delivery and professional development that promotes a focus on student learning consistent with the District vision, mission, and goals.

  15. Participates in instructional decision-making, and ensures the differentiation of instructional strategies, materials, and content to engage all students in learning.

  16. Prepares and supervises the preparation of reports, records, tests, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration.

  17. Prepares, submits and implements ethically, accurately, and efficiently the school budget and accounts.

  18. Works with appropriate district personnel in the effective and efficient operation of the school plant, food service, transportation, and accounting functions.

  19. Recruits, interviews, recommends for hire, mentors and evaluates highly qualified faculty and staff; and works with appropriate district administrators in the selection and assignment of building personnel.

  20. Manages the implementation of a variety of bargained agreements with and for employees.

  21. Maintains a safe learning and working environment, and responds to emergencies according to protocol.

  22. Oversees student co-curricular, interscholastic, intramural, and social activities.

  23. Maintains current knowledge of developments and best practices in the field of high school education and alternative high school education.

  24. Provides leadership in supporting groups such as PTA, school-business partnerships, community agencies, etc.

  25. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Master’s of Educational Administration and certification as an Iowa principal and evaluator approval licensure required. 

Administrative experience preferred.

 

EMPLOYMENT DATE:

Position begins July 1, 2023

 

Salary:  $163,545

2.   Experience addressing the needs of a diverse student population.

3.   Knowledge of competency based education (CBE).

4.   Knowledge of credit recovery programming.

5.   Experience working with first and second-order change.

6.   Experience building capacity to build consensus and a positive school culture.

7.   High School administrative experience.

  2. Skills and disposition to design a positive school culture and orchestrate a safe, orderly, caring community for learning.

  3. Licensure, training and experience for high school level education.

  4. Fosters positive relationships and active communication with all students, parents, staff, administrators and community members.

  5. Capacity to lead staff development planning and implementation to accomplish goals and objectives identified through the school improvement planning process.

  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  7. Ability to work independently without supervision and collectively as a member of a team.

  8. Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis with the willingness to adjust to flexible work schedules.

  9. Ability to organize, prioritize, assume responsibility and be accountable for decisions.

  10. Represent the District in a professional manner through confidentiality, collegiality, and the ability to inspire and influence others.

  11. Must be able to successfully use, maintain and access technology.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and implement ideas contained in technical documents, reports, regulations, etc.  Ability to effectively write reports and communications to administrators, colleagues, parents, students and staff.   Ability to effectively present information orally and respond to questions from administrators, teachers, staff and students.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform basic mathematical functions. Ability to use spreadsheets and reporting documents that assist with the computation of data.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve problems effectively.  Ability to interpret and implement a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, colleagues, community members, staff and students.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
