The General Maintenance Technician, Electrical is responsible for interior and exterior electrical construction and maintenance of all campus buildings, fire alarm systems, data and telephone wiring, HVAC controls wiring and exterior fixtures. The General Maintenance Technician works collaboratively with the Facilities department to ensure work priorities are kept, work orders are completed and customers receive follow-up on their requests. The General Maintenance Technician must possess excellent customer service skills and have a commitment to providing the best possible environment for education and student living.
The General Maintenance Technician, Electrical is considered “essential personnel” and is required to provide various duties and maintenance services, including snow removal, during and outside normal working hours and during institution closures; and duties associated with emergencies, scheduled and unscheduled events.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL
Maintain a safe campus environment by assuring that all electrical circuits, equipment and systems are functioning properly and are in good working order.
Perform corrective, preventative and troubleshooting maintenance checks on all equipment prior to use.
Install and repair electrical circuits, equipment, and systems, including sensors, fixtures, and programming.
Install and maintain exterior lighting and conduit including parking lot lights
Assist HVAC staff in wiring controls.
Ensure work orders are filled out and completed properly and thoroughly; establish priorities based on campus needs.
Respond to on-call and after-hours emergencies, both electrical and otherwise.
This job requires the use of specialized and power equipment
Obey all safety requirements and procedures at all times
Perform preventative maintenance checks on all equipment prior to use
Secure the work area and post proper safety notices for other users of the space prior to beginning work
Equipment trouble-shooting
Perform preventative maintenance and corrective maintenance (as required)
Ability to keep accurate records as required
Assist other employees with projects (as required)

Event set-ups and moves support as needed

Qualifications
Education and Training
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the maintenance profession
Journeyman General Maintenance Technician License or Master General Maintenance Technician License preferred.
High School diploma or GED required
Valid Driver’s License required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
General knowledge and understanding of trades
Strong knowledge and understanding of basic drawings and blueprints
Basic proficiency with applicable technology including Microsoft word, internet, email applications, etc.
Demonstrated proficiency with specialized power equipment
Excellent customer service, interpersonal and teamwork skills
Effective time management, organizational and prioritization skills
Able to communicate effectively with the college community and all levels of campus constituents
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Able to walk or stand for long periods of time
Able to climb ladders and scaffolding to perform work
Able to work up to 85 feet off the ground on a lift
Able to reach, bend, push and/or hold objects on a regular basis
Able to lift 50 pounds and carry it 75 feet
Able to independently travel to other locations on and off campus
