What are the responsibilities and job description for the Exceptional Student Educator (ESE) position at CECO?
The Conductive Education Center of Orlando (CECO) is a mission-driven nonprofit organization providing educational and life-skills-based programming for children and adults with neurological motor disabilities, including cerebral palsy.
Through our unique Conductive Education approach, we integrate physical, cognitive, social, and educational development to help each individual build greater independence and reach their fullest potential. CECO has program locations in Winter Park and Longwood, Florida.
CECO is seeking a compassionate, motivated, and skilled Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Teacher to join our multidisciplinary team.
This is not a traditional classroom environment. Our ESE Teachers have the opportunity to work with small groups of approximately 6–7 students, allowing for highly individualized instruction and meaningful relationships with students.
The ESE Teacher provides developmentally appropriate educational programming designed to promote students' physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth. You'll work collaboratively with other CECO professionals to develop individualized goals, adapt instruction to varying developmental levels, monitor progress, and integrate the principles of Conductive Education into the classroom.
- Provide small-group and individualized instruction tailored to each student's abilities, developmental level, and educational needs.
- Develop and implement differentiated educational programming for students with diverse disabilities.
- Collaborate as an active member of a multidisciplinary team to establish and implement goals across physical, cognitive, social, and educational domains.
- Integrate the principles of Conductive Education into daily instruction, including modifications necessary to meet individual student needs.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor student progress and use that information to guide instructional decisions.
- Maintain accurate attendance, progress documentation, and other required records.
- Monitor student progress and collaborate with the team to adjust goals and programming as needed.
- Implement proactive behavior-management strategies, including positive redirection, data tracking, functional behavior assessments, and behavior-plan development.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-wide activities.
- Provide basic caregiving support while following universal health and safety precautions.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
- Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Endorsement
- Florida Professional Teaching Certificate (PreK–3rd) preferred
- American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency preferred
- Experience providing small-group and/or one-on-one instruction
- Ability to adapt instruction for students functioning at varying developmental levels
- Strong classroom and behavior-management skills
- Experience with assessment and student-progress monitoring
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills
Because CECO's model incorporates physical participation and hands-on support throughout the day, this is an active role. Candidates must be able to:
- Repetitively lift 50 lbs. or more
- Stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, sit, carry, push, and pull equipment or assist students as needed
- Ambulate independently without the use of assistive devices
- Perceive and respond appropriately to environmental sounds
CECO offers eligible employees:
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) matching
- Paid time off
- Short- and long-term disability insurance
If you're an ESE teacher who values small class sizes, individualized instruction, interdisciplinary collaboration, and meaningful relationships with students, CECO offers an opportunity to use your teaching experience in a setting very different from a traditional classroom.
You'll work alongside professionals who approach each student as a whole person—supporting educational progress alongside physical, social, communication, and independence goals.
Locations: Winter Park & Longwood, Florida
