What are the responsibilities and job description for the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) position at Cecil County Community Services & Cecil Transit?
Position Summary The primary function of this position is to administer patient care to patients at the scene and during transport as a basic life support provider. This position will function as an operator of emergency vehicle such as but not limited to an ambulance as well as providing patient care at their certification level in conjunction with an Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider primarily. Must be able to perform assigned tasks under extremely stressful conditions while demonstrating intelligible judgment, compassion, and professionalism.
Position Responsibilities
1. Administers patient care at the scene of an emergency and during transport in accordance with written standing orders/protocols or through direct contact with a medical control physician via telephone and/or radio communications as defined by the State of Maryland EMT scope of practice.
2. Operates an emergency vehicle such as an ambulance or quick response vehicle in emergency and nonemergent conditions.
3. Completes written or electronic detailed patient care reports as well as providing verbal patient care information to peers or hospital staff.
4. Performs daily maintenance of station, vehicle and equipment and ensures operational readiness for response.
5. Operates two-way radio to comminate with other units, dispatch, and medical facilities.
6. Participates in community relations, education at public events and county activities as requested.
7. Participates in continuous training, education, and skills review to maintain State of Maryland & National Registry EMT certification.
8. May provide testimony in court or through deposition regarding observations/performance of job activities.
9. Assists in precepting students and third-party riders within their scope of practice per department guidelines.
10. Reports to work regularly and on time.
