Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist – Ultrasound (RDMS Certified)

Position Summary

The Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (Ultrasound RDMS Certified) provides comprehensive diagnostic ultrasound services to patients. This role supports the Radiology Department . The technologist operates independently while coordinating closely with hospital leadership to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations for pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients.
  • Independently operate fixed and portable ultrasound equipment.
  • Conduct routine and more complex ultrasound procedures, including but not limited to abdominal, vascular (DVT/RVT), breast, and other examinations within certification scope.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explain examinations, and ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Maintain accurate and timely patient logs, schedules, and medical documentation in accordance with IHS, JCAHO, CMS, and ACR standards.
  • Participate in daily quality control and quality assurance activities within the ultrasound department.
  • Assist medical staff in emergency situations, including cardiac arrest, anaphylaxis, and shock, as required.
  • Collaborate with Radiology Supervisors, Clinical Directors, and Area Consultants regarding complex procedures and clinical guidance.
  • Adhere to all hospital infection control, safety policies, and patient privacy requirements.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, staff meetings, and continuing education when requested.

Work Schedule

  • Typical schedules include 4x10-hour or 5x8-hour shifts, primarily day shifts.
  • Work hours may range between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., depending on departmental needs.
  • On-call availability may be required on a rotating basis, as coordinated with the Radiology Department.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience as an ultrasound technologist.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (ACLS acceptable).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a rural healthcare environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, particularly when working with Native American communities.

Physical & Professional Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive movements associated with ultrasound procedures.
  • Maintain professional appearance, hygiene, and conduct consistent with healthcare standards.
  • Ability to respond effectively in emergency and high-pressure clinical situations.
