About the Role:
CDM is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Machine Shop Parts Inspector to join our Quality team. This position is responsible for ensuring machined components meet engineering drawings, customer specifications, and company quality standards prior to assembly or shipment. The ideal candidate has a strong background in precision inspection, blueprint interpretation, and the use of advanced measuring equipment in a manufacturing environment.
As a key member of our Quality Department, you will work closely with machinists, engineers, and production personnel to ensure the highest level of product quality for our customers in the aerospace, defense, and industrial markets.
Key Responsibilities:
· Inspect machined parts and assemblies to verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
· Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
· Perform first-piece, first-article, in-process, and final inspections of machined components.
· Verify critical dimensions during machine setup and throughout production to ensure process capability.
· Utilize precision measuring equipment including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, dial indicators, thread gauges, optical comparators, and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs).
· Interpret customer specifications and consistently inspect products to customer acceptance criteria.
· Review material certifications, inspection reports, and process documentation for compliance.
· Accurately document inspection results and maintain quality records in accordance with company procedures.
· Identify, segregate, document, and report nonconforming materials or products.
· Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and quality personnel to investigate and resolve quality issues.
· Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and manufacturing efficiency.
· Assist during internal, customer, and third-party quality audits.
· Maintain compliance with company quality standards, safety policies, and manufacturing procedures.
· Follow all company and departmental safety requirements.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
· 3-5 years experience in aerospace, defense or precision machine shop inspection, manufacturing quality control
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
· Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), knowledge of MIL-Specs is a plus
· Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.
· Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.
· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
· Experience with machining in multiple materials including aluminum, steel and plastics is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience operating and/or programming Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and vision inspection systems.
· Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, or other regulated quality management systems.
· Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI) in accordance with AS9102.
· Certification as a Quality Inspector (CQI), Certified Mechanical Inspector (CMI), or equivalent quality certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive inspection tasks throughout the workday.
· Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Excellent visual acuity and manual dexterity required for precision inspection work.
· Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, equipment, and normal shop noise.

Compensation: $45,000 - $55,000 commensurate with education and experience
