Responsibilities
- Assist client with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, laundry, toileting, and mobility to promote comfort and independence
- Provide companionship and emotional support to an adult with disabilities
- Support appropriate social engagement by modeling social skills and behavior management
- Collaborate with families, teachers, or healthcare professionals to develop personalized care plans tailored to each individual’s needs
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by following proper hygiene practices and safety protocols in caregiving settings such as home visits, by cleaning areas, dishes, and linens used by individual
- Document care provided and observe changes in clients’ health or behavior to report to relevant stakeholders
- Providing transportation to medical, work, school, and social appointments
Skills
- Proven experience working with special needs individuals
- Ability to perform care with patience and attentiveness
- Strong understanding of behavior management techniques for people with diverse needs
- Certification or training in first aid and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
- Experience in caregiving roles involving individuals with disabilities or special needs
- Excellent communication skills to effectively teach, support, and engage special needs individuals
