Position Summary
The Development and Outreach Coordinator is a key member of CCTV's leadership team, working closely with the Executive Director and staff to sustain and grow the organization's community impact. This position supports and implements CCTV's fundraising and revenue goals, builds meaningful relationships with donors and community partners, and ensures that CCTV's work (from Town Meeting TV to CCTV Productions to CCTV Archives to Media Education) is visible, well-communicated, and compellingly represented to the public.
This role calls for someone who is equally comfortable with strategy and execution: a motivated, resourceful professional who brings both organizational skill and a genuine enthusiasm for CCTV's mission to their work each day. The ability to move fluidly between donor cultivation, grant writing, community outreach, and day-to-day communications is essential.
Primary Responsibilities:
Development Activities
- Support the planning and execution of CCTV's annual development efforts, including individual donor cultivation, major gifts, and business sponsorships.
- Cultivate and steward relationships with individual donors, foundations, and community funders, bringing genuine enthusiasm for CCTV's mission to every interaction.
- Represent CCTV's full range of projects in one-on-one donor meetings and partnership conversations, clearly articulating their value and community impact.
- Research, write, and submit grant applications to foundations and public funding sources.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of CCTV's full portfolio of projects and speak fluently to their value in written applications and funder conversations.
- Maintain accurate donor records and assist with acknowledgments, stewardship communications, and impact reporting.
- Assist in planning and executing fundraising events and special campaigns.
Public Communications
- Manage CCTV's weekly newsletter, website, social media channels (Instagram, Facebook, X, TikTok, etc.), and ongoing community outreach activities.
- Oversee the organization's mission calendar, coordinating promotion of special seasons, projects, and events.
- Develop clear, engaging messaging that reflects CCTV's mission of advancing free speech, local democracy, and community voice, and connect with diverse audiences.
- Amplify the stories of CCTV's impact: from the municipal meeting preserved for future generations to view, to the community members finding their voice on camera for the first time.
Community Partnerships & Outreach
- Identify and maintain partnership opportunities in collaboration with the Town Meeting TV Co-Directors and CCTV Executive Director.
- Represent CCTV at community events, coalitions, and public meetings.
- Support CCTV's relationships with local, state, and national partners committed to free speech, public access, and open networks, including the Vermont Access Network (VAN) and the Alliance for Community Media.
- May supervise interns supporting development and outreach work, fostering a culture of learning and mentorship consistent with CCTV's values.
Qualifications
- Experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, or communications; equivalent transferable experience and on-the-job learning are welcome.
- Demonstrated experience writing and securing grants preferred.
- Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills, with the ability to balance development responsibilities alongside outreach and communications work.
- Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, or a willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of or familiarity with community media, public access, or civic engagement strongly valued.
- A commitment to the values of community support, free speech, transparency, local democracy, and government accountability.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative, fast-moving environment with care and follow-through.
- We recognize that skills are built in many ways. Candidates with transferable experience or a demonstrated capacity to learn are encouraged to apply.
What We're Looking For
- A genuine commitment to CCTV's mission: free speech, local democracy, and the power of community media.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling narratives for donors, funders, and the public.
- The ability to work effectively in a dynamic, resource-conscious environment, balancing multiple priorities with care and follow-through.
- An entrepreneurial mindset and a willingness to take initiative, contribute ideas, and adapt as the organization evolves.
- Curiosity and a commitment to growth, both professionally and in service of the communities we work with.
- Experience with social media, email newsletters, or other public-facing communications.
- Enthusiasm for the mission and a genuine capacity to learn are equally valued alongside formal experience.
CCTV Center for Media & Democracy is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of our community.
