Working Environment: Hours: Monday – Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Primary Function:

The Digital Forensic Analyst performs analysis of all digital evidence and supports investigative collaboration for achieving justice. The work requires digital evidence is handled properly, maintaining chain of custody throughout the lifecycle of the evidence and contributing to successful prosecution or incident resolution.

Physical Requirements:

Medium Work: The position requires ability to sit for extended periods, frequent use of computers/screens; may require occasional walking, standing, lifting/carrying objects up to 20 lbs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts data extractions and examinations of portable and audio devices, mobile devices, internet service provider records, and third-party provided data using a variety of approved methods and tools
  • Utilizes data retrieval utilities to accurately recover evidence and information from computers and related storage media
  • Conducts analysis examinations of other digital evidence sources including but not limited to system logs, network activity logs, call detail and cell site records and associated digital records
  • Identifies potential evidence and communicates with the prosecution team in support of legal proceedings
  • Prepares complete and accurate reports of the results of analysis and interpretations
  • Works with prosecuting attorneys to ensure proper presentation of digital evidence before and during court hearings
  • Follows up on services by communicating with the requesting prosecutors to ensure all data analysis needs have been met
  • Regular interaction with State’s Attorney’s Office Employees and various outside agencies
  • Serves as a technical consultant to contributors on cybercrimes and digital forensic analysis
  • Availability for possible work outside of normal work schedule in response to major case preparation
  • Complies with related policies, procedures, and practices with internationally recognized standards for digital forensics testing laboratories and industry best practices
  • Maintains special purpose computer systems and approved tools with regular documentation of updates and validation methods
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed or required

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Undergraduate or graduate level classes taken or documented experience in the technological environment with a strong aptitude for technology
  • Candidate must have strong computer skills and expected to successfully complete advanced computer training for specific digital evidence related tasks
  • Candidate must be detail oriented, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task
  • The candidate must be able to accomplish job assignments within reasonable deadlines and be willing to accept new projects and/or commitments
  • The candidate must be open to changes in operational procedures, technology, and/or organizational structure
  • The candidate must also be equipped to handle changes in work priorities and/or unexpected circumstances or situations
  • The candidate must be able to lift at least 50lbs and have the ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

Preferred:

  • Undergraduate BA/MS or associate degree and/or cyber experience
  • Understanding of SaaS ecosystems and mobile artifact awareness
  • Understanding of search warrant and scope limitations
  • Exposure to leading digital evidence tools in the industry
  • Mobile and cloud ecosystem awareness and app data basic concepts
  • Have work-related experience with data integrity processes, evidentiary data and knowledge of chain of custody.
