Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on General Manager to oversee and coordinate all aspects of operations at our small but growing trucking company. This individual will be responsible for ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, managing staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, optimizing logistics, and contributing to the company’s strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations Management:
- Oversee daily operations including dispatch, scheduling, fleet management, and routing.
- Ensure timely deliveries and high service quality.
- Manage maintenance schedules for trucks and equipment.
Staff Supervision & Development:
- Supervise and support drivers, maintenance and office staff.
- Hire, train, and evaluate employees to ensure performance and compliance.
- Foster a positive, accountable work environment.
Financial Oversight:
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
- Review and approve invoices, fuel expenses, and payroll submissions.
- Monitor profit margins and implement strategies to improve efficiency.
Regulatory Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with all DOT, FMCSA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations.
- Maintain up-to-date records including driver logs, vehicle inspections, and safety audits.
- Promote a culture of safety and enforce company policies.
Customer & Vendor Relations:
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, shippers, and vendors.
- Handle service issues, disputes, or customer complaints professionally.
- Seek out new business opportunities and partnerships.
Technology & Reporting:
- Utilize transportation management software (TMS) and GPS systems for dispatch and tracking.
- Generate regular reports on KPIs, performance, and safety metrics.
Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience in transportation or logistics, including at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and trucking industry standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fleet/dispatch management software.
- Ability to work independently and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
Job Type: Full-time
Projected Total Compensation: $70,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
