General Description:

The MPU Heavy Equipment Operator will operate a wide range of heavy industrial equipment including graders, loaders, snowblowers, maxi hauls, dozers, and excavators in support of the Greater Prudhoe Bay roads and pads system. Operators will be required to safely perform pad lifts, roll and level road systems and pads, remove snow from pads, roads and pipeline access roads. Load and unload materials and supplies on the job site daily.

Essential Duties & Job Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Operate a variety of heavy equipment in a proficient manner.
  • Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material in a petrochemical facility or on construction projects in Arctic conditions. Select cables, slings, chokers, according to weight and size of load to be moved. Ability to analyze weather conditions and recognize hazards prior to the start of work.
  • Safely secure all loads in accordance with DOT and company policies and best practices.
  • Have working knowledge of the functional operation, purpose, capabilities, and limitations of any piece of equipment qualified to operate.
  • The ability to safely drive, back and operate heavy industrial equipment in congested areas and in severe weather conditions.
  • Maintain equipment in good/clean working order.
  • Develop lift plans, load calculation charts and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Follow company and client policies and procedures.
  • Informs supervisor of any incidents involving injury, spills, equipment malfunction and/or damage.
  • Be a Safety Leader! Ensure the resources and commitment to HSE is of top priority for all employees within the company.
  • Maintain 100% “Safety Standards and Accountability” in all areas or mandatory/regulatory requirements, which include:
    • Maintain compliance with the required HSE Training.
    • Taking necessary action when behaviors or conditions around you may be unsafe.
    • Reporting and addressing all potential safety concerns/incidents/issues promptly and willingly participate and assist in any investigation that may relate to a safety incident.
    • Performs work in strict compliance with permitting requirements, Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH) Standards and other compliance-oriented directives.
    • Participating in safety meetings, working safely, and maintaining a safe work environment as an employee and representative of CCI Industrial Services.
    • Document and record any injury or near miss incident that may occur while you are working.
    • Demonstrate and promote safe work practices by participating in JSA reviews, pre-job walkdowns and safety START card preparations covering work activities and materials required by the company and the client.
    • Promote and participate in Safety Programs.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of loader equipment along with the training necessary to perform standard rigging procedures. Possess applicable training as prescribed by the company, client and OSHA.
  • Ability to give and understand common hand signals and to safely connect to and lift equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of rigging devices and components such as wire ropes, chains, slings, hooks and lifting equipment
  • Skilled for at least three (3) of the following classes and types of equipment but may be qualified for more. Types of equipment include heavy trucks, loaders, blades, dozers, backhoes, as well as specialized equipment such as vac-trucks, super suckers, etc.
  • Knowledge of proper use and care for tools and equipment commonly employed on an industrial construction project such as chain falls, jacks, slings, chokers, shackles, clips, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety manuals and warning signs, drawings, specifications, rigging diagrams and lifting capacity charts for equipment and load carrying parts.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to prepare a detailed time sheet/log of daily work assigning proper coding for invoicing purposes.
  • Skilled in oral communication.
  • Ability to give and receive oral safety warnings, instructions, and tasks
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • The ability to give and understand common hand signals and to safely connect to and lift equipment and materials.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • NSTC Card
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in the operation of a minimum of three types of equipment with a high degree of skill and expertise with at least one or more types of equipment. Types of equipment include heavy trucks, loaders, blades, dozers, backhoes, as well as specialized equipment such as vac-trucks, super suckers, miners, etc.
  • A valid current commercial driver's license (CDL – Class A) .

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Oil field experience preferred.
  • Arctic experience is preferred.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works on-site at the construction site where the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud. Position may involve exposure to extremely hostile weather conditions at times while working outdoors. This position may involve working with potentially hazardous materials and waste.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. A pre-hire post offer Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) will be conducted to determine an employee's ability to perform to the job standard. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • MOBILITY: Must be able to access all controls and all parts of machinery for service. Must be able to push/pull 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • HEARING: Must be able to hear audible safety alarms.
  • VISUAL ACUITY: Must be adequate to perform above listed tasks in a safe manner and take hand signals from ground man or flag man.
  • LIFTING: Must be able to routinely lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, 50 pounds from wait level to shoulder height and carry 50 pounds for 20 feet.
  • RANGE OF MOTION: An objective range of motion measurements will be conducted and recorded using a five position and rapid exchange grip strength test during the pre-hire/post offer FCE.
