What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cook - RSW Shelter Program position at CCHC Online?
Position Summary:
Christian Community Health Center Amani House program assists homeless children and youth ages 0-17, and adult women ages 18 and over. The RSW/Cook provides food planning and preparation for CCHC’s shelter facility. This individual will also provide support to the operations of the shelter by monitoring and coordinating activities for the families. This position requires two job descriptions.
Responsibilities

- Call offs must be 3 hours prior to the start of the shift.
- Demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Able to handle crisis situations with minimum supervision.
- Able to maintain program/client/agency confidentiality and treat each individual with dignity and respect, and to set and observe personal limits and boundaries, especially with respect to participants.
- Ability to accept supervision and work with Amani House staff and community social service providers cooperatively.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Display professional appearance in accordance with agency/program dress code policy.
- Handle difficult situations in a discreet manner.
- Must be able to handle stress and work well under pressure.
- Must be able to problem solve and handle crises.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings when scheduled. Missing two consecutive meetings will result in disciplinary action.

- Some physical work is required including: lifting, bending, climbing four flights of stairs, carrying up to 35 lbs.
- Conducts food planning for the house.
- Prepares meals for the house.
- Monitors food purchases and food storage (no open containers, cups, uncovered food).
- Monitors meal-times and snacks.
- Provide life skills and nutrition groups.
- Prepare and submit monthly reports.
- Participate and monitor the Chicago Children Nutrition Program.
- Create a weekly menu.
- Create a participant cooking schedule.
- Monitor refrigerators and freezers for organization, cleanliness, and food is stored and dated.
- Ensure that clients clean up after lunch (wash dishes and clean dining area)
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must possess basic computer skills including word processing (be able to navigate through Microsoft Office, be able to create/ edit forms in Microsoft Excel and Word, and attach documents), data base, and Internet communications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including grammar and active listening skills.
- Ability to write clear, accurate case notes and complete other required case documentation thoroughly and accurately.
- Must have a Certified Food Service Manager license with the City of Chicago.
- Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
