Position Overview
The Safety Director is responsible for leading and managing all company-wide safety programs for both self-performed and subcontracted construction activities. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and client-specific safety requirements while promoting a proactive, accountable and team-oriented safety culture.
The Safety Director works closely with executive leadership, operations, project management, and field supervision to identify hazards, mitigate risk, investigate incidents, and continuously improve safety performance across all projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all safety efforts for self-performed and subcontracted work across multiple construction sites
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve company safety policies, procedures, and programs
- Promote a proactive safety culture emphasizing accountability, ownership, and peer-to-peer responsibility
- Identify site-specific hazards and develop effective solutions to eliminate or minimize exposure and risk
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled jobsite safety inspections and audits; prepare detailed reports with findings, corrective actions, and follow-up
- Review construction plans and specifications for compliance with applicable safety requirements, including access/egress, ventilation, lighting, signage, hazardous materials, and emergency planning
- Coordinate and conduct new-hire safety orientations, ongoing training, toolbox talks, and supervisory coaching
- Manage Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for company operations and projects
- Lead accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, including documentation, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking
- Maintain accurate and complete safety documentation, including incident reports, SDS records, site access logs, and compliance records
- Serve as the primary safety liaison with clients, inspectors, consultants, captive insurance company and regulatory agencies
- Track, analyze, and report safety metrics and trends to executive leadership
- Partner with operations and project teams to integrate safety planning throughout the project lifecycle
- Support company initiatives related to risk management, insurance, and regulatory compliance as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- 3–5 years of safety leadership experience in commercial construction or related engineering environments
- Strong knowledge and application of OSHA regulations, EM 385-1-1, and construction safety standards
- Experience in accident/incident prevention, investigation, documentation, and reporting
- Experience conducting Job Hazard Analyses and risk assessments
- OSHA 10-Hour and OSHA 30-Hour certifications
- OSHA Train-the-Trainer certification
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage multiple active job sites
Preferred:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Experience working with or around heavy equipment and related hazards
- Experience interacting with owners, design professionals, consultants, and regulatory agencies
Physical & Work Requirements
- Frequent travel to active construction job sites
- Ability to work in varying outdoor and indoor site conditions
- Ability to walk job sites, climb ladders, and navigate uneven terrain

Pay: $59,390.07 - $71,523.52 per year
