MALCOLM X COLLEGE

Malcolm X College is currently seeking a Job Developer for the Institutional Effectiveness Department.

 

The intent of the Workforce Equity Initiative Grant is to create, support, or expand short-term workforce (credit and/or noncredit) training opportunities in high-need communities focused on specific sectors with identified workforce gaps.  

 

Through this grant Malcolm X College (MXC) funds Project MPACT program. The purpose of the grant is to support students who reside in primarily targeted under represented communities by removing barriers (financial barriers) and supporting students who can prepare for the workforce by completing a high demand credit/training program that can be completed in one year or less and build skills that will prepare them for the workforce.  

 

City Colleges of Chicago (CCC), the largest community college system in Illinois, is made up of seven colleges and five satellite sites, providing more than 70,000 students each year access to a quality, affordable education. 

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE 

Reporting to the Director, Grant Administration a Job Developer performs a range of job placement and job development activities to assist students completing an industry recognized credential and/or certificate training program, including MXC’s Health Care and Nursing programs, with finding employment in jobs that match their job skills and qualifications.  

 

Job Developer works collaboratively with key stakeholders in engaging local and regional employers to successfully identify and locate secure job openings in various occupational areas; creates interest in hiring graduating students by marketing MXC’s vocational training programs to employers and business organizations; and works with students to orient them to available job placement services. Performs related duties as required. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

 

• Identifies and establishes working relationships with local and regional employers to develop job leads for students completing certificate

training programs.  

• Initiates and maintains personal contact with employers to solicit their interest and involvement in the recruitment and employment

of MXC students.  Markets certificate programs and the availability of students with the training and skills needed to meet their employment

needs.  

• Works collaboratively with department leadership and college administrators to support Project MPACT program objectives. 

• Plans, organizes, and executes on-campus job fairs and employer engagement events to bring employers on campus, tour training facilities,

and speak to students enrolled in Health Care, Nursing, and other certificate training programs about career opportunities. 

• Prepares requisitions to procure items such as food, transportation, swag, and supplies to execute planned events and related activities.

Places orders with vendors and works with support staff to ensure appropriate and timely processing of purchase requisitions.  

• Works with staff and college administrators to coordinate the provision of wraparound services and activities to support job placement services

and assist students with the job search process. 

• Plans and organizes career fairs, career readiness workshops, field trips, and other activities to engage potential and current students with an

interest in completing certificate training programs.  

• Participates in providing career readiness workshops to students including job search process, resume writing, effective interviewing, soft

skills development, and related career readiness skills.  

• Maintains a database of job leads and potential employers.  Informs students of job opportunities and connects them with suitable

employment opportunities.    

• Collects and tracks student job placement data; complies data and prepares reports regarding job development and placement efforts.  

• Researches job market to remains abreast of industry trends and employment demand for skilled technicians and workers in

occupational/vocational fields.   

• Networks with professional/community organizations involved in job placement activities.  

• Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Education, Counseling, or a related field relevant to the job.  

• Three years of progressively responsible experience in human resources, job placement or development, workforce development, student

services, or career advising  

• Work experience in an academic setting highly desirable  

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 

• Strong problem-solving and organizational skills  

• Ability to work with and relate to a culturally diverse student body, faculty, and staff 

• Ability to work effectively with different levels of staff within the organization  

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

• Must be able to handle all situations with tact, persuasiveness, and diplomacy 

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 

 

SALARY RANGE: $63,644 – 70,008.40

Offered salary will be determined by the respective collective bargaining agreement and applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.
