CENTER OF EQUITY FOR THE CREATIVE ARTS – CONTINUING EDUCATION LECTURER

Kennedy-King College is seeking two Part-Time Continuing Education Lecturer for the Center of Equity for the Creative Arts (CECA). This is a unique opportunity to be part of the CECA, where culture, creativity, and community intersect. Instructors will help shape innovative programs that celebrate Black history and contribute to a vibrant arts ecosystem at Kennedy-King College. This role directly supports student success by empowering students through the means of connecting them to the cultural roots of music and media, fostering creativity, cultural appreciation, and confidence. The course introduces students to new forms of artistic expression, entrepreneurial thinking, and community-based storytelling—building both personal and professional skills.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- A typical day for Continuing Education Lecturer involves delivering engaging student-centered lessons based on prepared curriculum and leading discussions about iconic artists, songs, and moments in Black music and television. The instructor will arrive early to prepare the space, ensuring that all materials and media are set up for the session.
- The instructor will have the opportunity to collaborate with the CECA team to support outreach and program visibility. Also, facilitate content creation workshops that merge history with modern platforms like TikTok or YouTube.
- The instructor will have the rewarding task of inspiring and guiding students through group activities, discussions, and projects. Additionally, mentoring students through group projects or live showcase performances.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong knowledge of African American cultural history, music, and/or media.
- Experience in teaching or leading workshops related to creative arts, music, or performance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook). Open to learning new technology platforms created to help students and instructors such as BrightSpace.
- Ability to engage diverse student populations through culturally responsive instruction.
- Familiarity with curriculum development and classroom management.
