The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Undergraduate Programs reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs to provide strong academic and administrative leadership. The Vice Provost is a senior-level position and the individual in this role is expected to work with a high level of autonomy, individual discretion and professionalism. The Vice Provost functions as a representative and is authorized to act on behalf of the Provost. In accordance with the University's vision, mission, and strategic focus, the Vice Provost interacts closely with the Academic Deans and is actively engaged in developing and/or supporting processes and policies that enhance undergraduate education and student success. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Undergraduate Programs is a senior-level position and the individual in this role is expected to work with a high level of autonomy, individual discretion and professionalism. The Vice Provost interacts closely with the Academic Deans and is actively engaged in developing and/or supporting processes and policies that enhance undergraduate education and student success. The Vice Provost is responsible for strengthening strategic academic initiatives that involve instructional support, diversity, academic integrity, and university-wide programs that complement and expand student learning.
* Serve on the Deans Council and the Provost's Administrative Council to ensure appropriate undergraduate program support, coordination, and policy development and review;
* Serves as an ex-officio member of the Faculty Senate to support appropriate development, implementation, and compliance with undergraduate academic policies and general education requirements;
* Manages liaison relationships between the Office of Academic Affairs and the Divisions of Student Affairs and Human Resources, Director of Athletics, and the Special Assistant to the Chancellor;
* Provides regular advice and guidance to the Provost and is directed to act independently as needed in the absence of the Provost;
* Engages appropriate Cabinet members, and others as designated, in developing and implementing University policies and practices related to academic integrity and diversity;
* Provide managerial oversight and support to the Directors of the Center for Academic Excellence, Office of International Programs, Honors Program, and Title III HBCU and HBGI grants;
* Chair the Provost's Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics to address matters of student athlete admission, academic support, eligibility certification, appeals and other matters that assure overall intercollegiate athletic academic integrity;
* Provide University leadership with respect to Army and Air Force ROTC Battalions;
* Develop pre-collegiate bridge and community college transfer programs to facilitate the academic, social, and physical transition for entering students;
* Foster collaborative relationships with the Division of Student Affairs to facilitate strong innovative programs that support academic studies and residential living-learning communities;
* Support the growth of STEM-related undergraduate and K-12 academic partnerships;
* Manage facility needs, communication processes, and other resources to support campus-based primary schools.
* Provide fiscal oversight of Division of Academic Affairs Budget to include Salary and Budget Administration;
* Evaluate academic support systems to improve academic policy and student service delivery
* Track regional/state/national undergraduate scholarship/prize opportunities to support the scholarly and financial aspirations of undergraduate students;
* Serve on the Emergency Management Incident Command Team; and
* Direct and supervise the activities of assigned staff; manage ancillary tasks involving tuition remission and waivers, undergraduate bulletin, commencement, and campus directory.
