Role Description
This is a full-time, remote-based position, for a Project Accountant with Controller-level responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include:
Core Accounting Operations:
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP
• Lead the monthly closeout process and prepare timely, accurate financial statements
• Develop and maintain robust internal controls and accounting policies
• Support the CFO with financial reporting and provide accurate, reliable data for decision-making
• Take a hands-on role in enhancing financial systems, ensuring compliance, and developing the finance function to better support company operations
• Contribute to work-in-progress (WIP) reporting with cost and revenue inputs for monthly financial cycles
• Serve as a cross-functional liaison between accounting, project management, and field operations
Payroll and HR Coordination:
• Work closely with any third party administrators for Payroll and HR to ensure payroll-related entries, benefit deductions, and tax payments are accurately recorded
• Support audits and reconciliations that connect payroll data to general ledger accounts
• Partner with HR to improve efficiency and accuracy in employee-related financial processes
• Manage benefit plan administration and compliance, including financial coordination with the Third-Party Administrator and benefit vendors
• Support HR in implementing benefit plan changes and annual renewals, ensuring correct financial setup and reporting
• Provide financial oversight and analysis of benefit costs to assist in companywide planning and budgeting
Team Leadership and Development:
· Develop a finance and administrative function that supports operations by providing project managers, superintendents, and field teams with timely, accurate information
· Collaborate with the CFO to align team structure and resources with company growth and strategic priorities.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in construction project accounting, billing, or construction finance
- Associate’s degree in accounting; Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
- Strong knowledge of job costing and tracking in a construction setting
- Familiarity with construction contracts, billing methods, and progress payments
- Experience with ERP or construction accounting software (e.g., Job Tread, Adaptive, Foundation or Sage)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Office tools
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
